This scenario has happened time after time with me. I go to cavs download Gretchin Wilsons "When I think About Cheatin" for $2 Go to the bar and ask Deena will she sing it I havnt heard it very much... Ok I'll sing it ... She goes to Walmart and buys the cd....Then 2 people listening to her goes buy the cd. Multiply this by all the karaoke shows all over the world in one weekend.
I bought the karaoke version with social security money and helped sell a cd...When will they realize that KJ'S are promoting an artists new songs too? For if singers aint singin it then they aint buyin it. The current laws that pertain to third party singers are detrimental to the artist and the producers profit. The courts and anybody with common sense realizes this..
I dont want to start another sea lawyer thread and debate the legalities, but would like some opinions and examples of karaoke promoting music. Lets get positive for awhile and promote karaoke and come up with some good ideas. For we do alot for the music industry....

I view it that way. What I've always wondered is since they already have everything including the copyright on the music why they don't take the original tracks and put out the entire album on karaoke at the same time. They could refuse additional uses of the tracks locking everyone into their version creating a 'monopoly' in the process. And who can do the backing better than the original even if they did allow others to produce the tracks?
I think the record industry is really missing the boat on this one - THANK GOD!!!

I agree, I would love to see a whole "album" for my favorite artists. The only one I know of is Gretchen Wilson (the manufacturer is supposed to be coming out with Big & Rich.) Of course they could do their own and allow what is currently being done, it would be interesting to see who would purchase the original vs. SC or CB...

and I'm kinda the opposite! My taste in music is what allows me to go out and purchase some artists on karaoke that I normally might not get.
Took the chance and got the Cool Tracks vol 1, Evanescence... and they're very good versions!
Also the classic artists too!

In Asia it is very common for the recording house themself to produced the karaoke version of the CD. This is normaly in mulitplex vcd where the original artis vox is in the karaoke track. This way I dont need to buy the audio CD, since I already have the original vox of the singer in my karaoke version.
In the most extreme case the only version is the karaoke vcd. These artise produce original songs and ONLY produce karaoke VCD.The CD version do not sell well since people who buy these songs want to sing along with it and you cant karaoke with a CD version.
And there are VCD karaoke version of the original singers and just to name a few; ABBA, Air Supply, Bee Gees, Richard Max and a 16 Vol set of oldies.
You guys in the west are way behind time; but then Karaoke originate in th East

I can't believe someone would actually go out and buy a CD just to learn a song on it.
When I am in that situation, I'll download the song off the net, learn it and then delete it so I don't have a bunch of downloads stored on my computer.

Who is the manufacturer of these? We have something similar, although not original artist, made by World Star which stopped producing their VCD/multiplex.

I grabbed this one too. Not bad at all. Someone told me it was the same as the Top Tunes disc - this I don't know. I do know that Top Tunes did re-release their Evanescence disc with 2 new songs that weren't on it before.
ALmost believe it though as since the TT217 got re-released, the Cool Tracks disc is almost unobtainable anymore.

If the artist didn't want their songs to be released for karaoke the wouldn't be released. Simple as that, for the most part the record company dictates when and if a track will be released.
As far as original artist vs studio musicians. I don't think that it will ever happen with rock music or older recordings, most masters are vaulted under lock and key. Many new rap / r&b songs are released as instrumental for remix purpose, promo only put out 8 to 10 songs a month. It's a royal pain to create cd+g files but for some reason if you wanted the original artist recording it could be done.
There are many cd+g's currently available that are artist specific sound choice star series is mostly single artist disc, and the spotlight have a number of artist 15 track disc.

You should go over to the soundchoice forum some time, and just read about the artists that are CONSTANTLY telling them no, or they want to much money.
It amazes me that sc can't get licensing, and the monthly titles out there sneak them in.

F H Entertainment,
The 16 vol set are the best, it have original video footage and original songs that are very difficult to get hold now; ie vol 6 have, Power to all my friend, Cliff Richard;Cant give you anything but love,Stylistics; Under the boardwalk,Driffters; River of Babylon ABBA; In the summer time Mugo Jerry; Byby love Everly Brother; Calender Girl, Nail Sadaka; He aint havy he is my bro., Hollies; Downtown Petula Clark; Black Magic Woman, Santana.
I think its produced by MUVICOM under licensed from Ross Alexander Media and is distributed world wide by D' Laser Shop Singapore. Email them at
dlaser @ sinnet.com.sg ( note I spaced the @).
The other titles ie ABBA, Bee Gees, Air Supply, Carpenters are also distrbuted by the same co. as above.

FYI, the email isn't any good. It bounced when I sent an email.
I'm looking for some asian discs for the tourists this summer and was hoping they'd have something at a reasonable price.

well i dunno 'bout anyone else... but I'm usually drawn to songs that I can sing. I barely have ANY male albums, but I have a TON of female artists' albums... I don't know if I do it on purpose, but most of my cd's I have were bought because My favorite songs are usually the ones I can sing. Hence the reason I'm such a ginormous fan of Martina McBride.... it's mostly because I like to SING her songs.
anyways.... get to the point of the thread, Crystal.
I used to sing Rebecca Lynn Howard's "Forgive" ALL The time at karaoke... and I've had at least 3 ppl come up to me and ask me who the original was... one girl wrote it on a napkin and went and bought it... She ended up singin' the next time I was there (which I thought was pretty cool) So, I'm with most of you! Karaoke does boost artist's sales!

Did you retyped it so the '@' is not spaced. I got the email address from the cover of the vcd. If its bad then try faxing them at 65 7321684; this is a singapore tel number.
ps/ as a side not , how do include a Japanies/Chinese songs in your song book listing when you wont be able to typed those charecters. Here we scan them and then photo copy.( Scan, cos you may want to remove those colors and artworks that may make reading difficuly)
