I guess the only thing that bothers me are the few occasions where I have spent literally hundreds of hours on a song which gets very little attention (less than 10 total views- including one that has 2 total views and one that has a total of 3 total views). Sorry, didn't mean to digress, or especialloy sound like I might have been whining.

Sorry, but as long as you sing in that falsetto rather than down in your own normal range, you are not going to get many positive comments and people will keep skipping your songs.

I edited out the rest...sorry if it sounded mean.

People don't want honest comments (at least most don't). Because the truth would destroy most of the singers. From the time since Seby first came on board and JVJ, this site has been rocked to it's foundation because they dared to give honest feedback... and people lost their fricken minds!

For a while I tried to fight it like they did. Eventually, I realized you can't.

Tig wasn't RUDE. He was HONEST. He wasn't talking just about this poll, he was talking about everyone that does that same type of behavior. A simple look thru this site and it's archives will find you thread after thread of those of us (and I'm one of them) that complained about participation in the showcase.

Nice to see you again, Matt!!! ;)

You might be happy to know that we continue to try and be honest with folks... to the best of our ability. Of course, I've learned to soften my critiques, but I continue to try and be as specific as possible. :) I've found more folks who sincerely try to be honest in their critiques these days as well.

Take care, Matt. :)

I know that I took the time to post on some of Phoenix's songs, and on one in particular, she asked for any helpful feedback so I asked her to contact me if she wanted a 'critique' (it was a JFF sub), yet I never got any response from any of the comments I posted.

Getting comments on subs is a two-way street. We like to be acknowledged when we take the time to listen and comment, and occasionally have the person return the favor (though I certainly don't see reciprocal commenting as an obligation).

I think what Suzanne posted above is a little harsh in the way it's said, but honest and more of a frustrated 'blurt' than an attack. She also has a point... if a singer has particular problems that make them unpleasant to listen to, and that singer simply refuses to acknowledge that they need improvement, they cannot reasonably expect people to flock to their subs and spend time listening & commenting.

i agree with what you say sebby , but suzanne was not just harsh she was downright insulting to phoenix, and i am sorry no-one deserves that, that wasn't critique or constructive critiscm it was out and out rudeness...opinions like that should be kept to themselves.

I don't think I was being insulting...I wasn't saying his voice was bad or that he can't sing, I was saying that because he forces his voice into an unnatural place all of the time (where his singing lacks breath support because, that is very high and not a normal place for a guy to sing) and then expects people not only to listen but to like it, that is not going to happen.  And he is ALWAYS whining in here about people not listening to him, so i was being honest about why that is.  From what I could tell, when he sings in the lower, more natural place for his voice, it sounds darn good, and I have told him that.  I was more or less answeing his posts, not picking on him out of the blue.  Sorry if you thought it was too harsh. I can be direct sometimes :)

"HIM"???

Phoenix is a girl... isn't she?

Egad... if not, maybe that's why they never answer me... enough 'good job Gal's and I guess a guy would be insulted. I think Phoenix is a girl though.. doesn't 'she' have one of those pink 'chick' symbols on her bio page?

Suzanne.... I don't really know WHAT your problem is..... But, that wasn't simply direct.. (I AM DIRECT, and blunt... ) YOU were downright rude....

Call it what you want.. but, hey, pick your battles... putting someone down, simply because you are tired of whatever "whining" you think they have done, simply makes no sense. A person can sing however and whatever they want.. I am sure you would be upset, if I came on here, and bashed your technique, etc etc.

Seriously, find a damn hobby. Or, do it nicely in a pm... don't give YOUR opinion, and claim it to be everyones. Maybe that is why YOU don't listen, but don't give it as a reason why no one else does. Geez, how many listens and comments do YOU GET? I am SURE you would love more. Heck, wouldn't everyone? So, how is that whining?

Good friggin night, please stir up some drama, and serve me a nice big hot bowl.

here here gilly!!!!!! i was just gonna post a huge waffle but i don't need to, i am glad someone else see's it for what it is.

Suzanne when your making huge record sales, or producing bands which make you millions and make stars of people....THEN perhaps it would be more acceptable to people IF you become DIRECT as you call it..........rude and MEAN i call it!

but the reality is....YOU ARE AN AMATEUR SINGER!!! ON A AMATEUR KARAOKE SITE we are ALL AMATEURS here , yes some , striving to be better but that most certainly DOES NOT give you an excuse to be so damm bloody rude like your some expert pro and know whats best....you dont!!!! if so believe me we would all be whoooooooo'ing your subs and you would be selling records in the millions and i don't see that happening yet....LEARN FROM YOUR OWN ADVICE i say, don't try beating others for the way they sing!!!!

Wow....I've been watching this thread off and on all day at work and was
wondering who was going to blow first.   Gilly and Missy.....my hats off to you!

Suzanne,  That was probably the meanest, rudest thing I've seen said on this site.
Rising Phoenix is probably one of the most dedicated people to her style of music
on this site.  It takes a special person to take an unpopular style and get people
to listen.  I never listened to this style until I heard her and I actually find it very
nice.  I don't really understand it but there is something about it I like.
I've read a few of your other posts on the forums today and I don't know where this anger of yours is coming from but this is really no place for it.
I wish you well and hope what ever is bothering you goes away.

Sorry to all, didn't mean to offend or be rude. I don't really understand where the comments about my singing and not being recorded, etc. came from. I never claimed to be a professional singer. I do have a lot of vocal training (years of voice lessons, including at the college level), but I'm just expressing my opinion, not giving "expert advice", just like everyone else.

And yes, RP is a guy, though he claims to be a girl...check out some of his non-classical work and you will hear it when he goes down momentarily into the lower part of his register.  I don't really care what his gender issues are. I'm only talking about the singing, which is what we do here, right??

If I tried to sing REALLY low and completely out of my range in order to sing guys' songs in their original key, forcing myself into an unnatural place so that my notes were all flat or otherwise out of tune, then I would expect the same type of comments, especially if I was constantly posting on the forum here, asking why no one was listening to my songs (which RP does, and I am not the first to point this out).   Please excuse me if you think this was rude to point out.

I just don't think that is was your PLACE to point out ANYTHING... don't you see that? Just ignore things that bother you, you don't have to b!tch about them, that is for sure. If you have a problem with RP, then either keep it to yourself, or take it to pm, but, don't degrade and embarrass people on an public forum, how is that hard to understand? I just don't see the point, I really don't.

I wasn't the one bitching, I was just replying to what he said in his posts. I don't think we are going to agree on this...I wasn't trying to degrade or embarrass anyone, I was just trying to be helpful, in my way...again, sorry for any offense because it wasn't meant.  BTW I have PMed him about it but he doesn't reply.  Neither did he respond to this or any comments I made to him on his songs (where, again, he always ASKS for criticism, which is all I've been giving). I even apologized on a PM to him because I'd heard about some problems he was having second-hand that I didn't previously know about.  Also I did edit my comments because my original ones were much harsher.

I give up then:) I have a big mouth, and just thought you were rather harsh, for no reason (as did many others).. because, it really isn't your place to tell anyone ANYTHING... but, then, it isn't my place to tell YOU anything.  So, I will stop. But, seriously, let up a little, regardless of RP replying, or not, WE all read your comments, and a lot of us found them more than a little harsh. Let's drop it already.

Have a good day-

Gillian

Suzanne,
I'm glad to hear that you tried to PM RP.  And I really hope that you intended
to apologize.   I think you did the right thing in trying to make contact.   Now........let's just move along and have some fun!

:handshake:
