I just moved to Dublin Ohio outside Columbus from Los Angeles and need to find a karaoke place that 1) Has the no smoking ban and 2) actually enforces the no smoking ban. I have really bad reactions to cigarette smoke so can't go to a place that only occasionally enforces the ban, has good ventilation, etc. If you could let me know name, address if possible, and nights/times they do karaoke I would appreciate it. I must feed my addiction!

Welcome to the east coast! Bars here do not ban smoking, and most likely will not. Best chance is to find a Bw3's or something that is a national chain that will have a non-smoking section. I used to live in Columbus the only place i can think of that has Karaokeand a non smoking section is Buffalo Wild Wings on High St by Ohio State Campus. Keep in mind the Karaoke guy sets up in the bar (Smoking Section).
Good luck in your search, without smoking bars would not exist!

I don't know about Ohio, but there is a chance that you might find karaoke in a non-smoking bar in a bowling alley and a few similar places that don't cater to a more smoking crowd.

Good Luck, man...My husband and I have a karaoke business here in the Ohio Valley, and 90% of the patrons of all the bars around here smoke.  They are trying to make a ban on public smoking here, but we know a non-smoking law will make businesses in this area take a major swan-dive.  Beer and a smoke are like ice cream and a cone.  If people can't smoke in a bar, they just won't go to the bar; therefore, our karaoke business is dust.

This next comment I'm going to make is NOT geared directly toward you, notdave, but to any non-smokers, ones who especially complain about the smoke:  If you can't stand the smell, then don't go to a bar in the first place.  It's common sense.

Well, that's just fine.   If we don't like smoke, we don't get to sing karaoke.  Real fair.

The problem for us non-smokers (in places where smoking in bars is still allowed) is that we generally don't have a choice between a smoky bar and a non-smoky one.  There are no non-smoky ones.

There are some places, too, where I imagine that even if they initiated a no-smoking policy, it wouldn't matter for a lot of people.  Those places have had so much smoke for so many years that they can't get the smell out of there.  If you're particularly sensitive to smoke, you might run into that problem.  I knew one guy who was so sensitive to automobile emissions that he couldn't eat at a fast-food restaurant because of the cars going through the drive-thru.

Personally I just bite the bullet and deal with it, but there is at least one place that I won't go back to because it was so smoky that I couldn't sing properly.  It's a shame, too, because the crowd was really into the karaoke.  I imagine there are a fair number of non-smokers who will never sing karaoke because of the smoke.  Too bad.

Sad to say, MOST non-smoking bars do not last.  We had a few here that tried going non smoking.  They did the move originally because they had numerous requests from non-smokers that it was TOO smokey.  When the request was made into reality, they quickly lost most of their clientelle - including the people that requested they change because now all their smoking friends went elsewhere & they went as well to be with their friends.  This lasted less than a month & they went back to smoking & got the people back - including the non-smokers that complained originally.
I've heard several stories along the same lines from different kj's in other states as well.  It's one thing to be forced to go non-smoking - this doesn't give any one bar an advantage or disadvantage, but if a bar chooses to be non-smoking in a smoking area - chances are not very good that they will last - there are always exceptions, but they are few & far between.
