Ok.. I'm gonna gripe...
WHY is it that some folks put up their songs as 'theme' when the song is NOWHERE NEAR the current 'theme of the week'??
For example... the theme this last week was 'punk'. One fellow put up a COUNTRY song as 'theme'.
I think it's just an attempt to get more people to listen and that irks the heck outta me. Now, I might be called a hypocrite because I put up a song for 'punk' week that is more of a gothy-rock song, but to be honest I wasn't sure when I put it up because it's kinda similar to stuff Siouxie used to do (and that was punk... or at least, it was CALLED punk in those days, although I think her early stuff would have been more classified as 'goth' now).
However, that is kind of hair splitting... but a COUNTRY song??? How far from punk can you get?? ol That's kind of like putting up a 'Skinny Puppy' song for 'Gospel' week! (well, unless your particular 'gospel' includes things like Skinny Puppy) OL I wouldn't think it unreasonable, for example, to submit certain 'blues' songs for 'country' (and vice versa), but holy smokes...
Oh well, just felt the need to rant I guess. This isn't the first time I've seen this done and it just irritates me. It's like when people put up an ad on Ebay and put ***LOOK!!!*** in the title, or WOW!!! grr
The person didn't get many listens anyway and I didn't listen just on principle. Maybe I'm just more irritable than usual.

I've seen that too and I think some people aren't clear on what the term THEME means around here. He or she might think it means some kind of theme song.. I dunno.. :dontknow: I'm just ramblin' too since I'm not sure who you are referring too so ramble ramble heheh... but I have noticed there are some clueless members who don't venture into the forum and prolly just think it means something else... again.... why am I continuing to talk??:dontknow: ..... have a great day!

I'm with sheree here.... I have seen a lot of people do this.. an USUALLY they are a person who i have NEVER seen in the forum, andmaybe just has NO idea, what the ""theme" thing is about.. or, they see the check box, at the bottom, there, and just hit it.. Lol, duuuuh.
(but, I agree, some people i think, have done it to simply have it in the theme.. and have more listens?! MAybe?! I have NO IDEA:)
I have only ONCE posted a song in the "theme", and can you believe it was bluegrass?! Lol, and, here I post a punk song, and miss the theme by one day.. DARN IT!:)

! I enjoyed the ranting. I haven't noticed TOO much deviation from the theme, but then I don't listen every day so maybe that's why.
I have to be honest (here she goes again!) that I think some of the themes are pretty obscure and hard to find songs for (how much karaoke is punk, anyway?). If all the good themes are taken, perhaps we should start over?

Ya'll are too much ! Yea, I have noticed that myself and it does get a lil annoying .
There's alot of punk karaoke,it's just a matter of knowing your punk Alot of what ppl thought was a tune from the 80's,is actually punk genre.People have just labeled it 80's.For example,Blondie was considered punk when they 1st got on the scene.
Now my pet peeve is something along these lines .Mine is ppl labeling songs under one genre when that wasn't the actual one . For example, some people label the Eagles under country? I'm sorry but Eagles are Rock(Southern rock if you want to nit pick).Yes,about 10yrs ago alot of famouse country singers did a CD tribute to the eagles but that doesn't mean that is the actual genre. Ok I am done ranting
Ya'll have a nice day!
Jess :D

Lol, I agree:) like, I have seen people put Sarah McLachlan, and, like.. EARLY jewel, under ROCK... Maybe I am missing the plot... but, how the hell are they ROCK?! And, yeah, the eagles one gets me.. but, only because I loved the eagles, and hate country... I couldn't bear to blur the lines;)

Hi all,
Well, I'll just add my two cents , wait, better add 2 more because of inflation ...and I go along with the idea that new members probably just don't see the announcement at the top of the SS page that says "This week's theme is...." and so they don't exactly know what they're selecting when they hit the theme button for their song. Or maybe sometimes they just accidently click on that theme button thinking that they're selecting the other button...or maybe, and this is probably the more likely case, aliens from the planet THEMETHINGYWRONG which I believe scientists found in the solar system NOSUBTHISSONG may have beamed the impulse to mis-categorize the submission (which should not be confused with Miss Cat o' the Rye, NY who wasn't at all submissive, but I digress...which should not be confused with those who work in movie special effects for they seldom digress but ocassionally during the winter months have been known to dye grass).............. ...............But I think what I hate more then miscategorized theme subs is the term "Pet Peeve" - I mean, I use it all the time too, it's always "Pet Peeve this" and "Pet Peeve that"....yesterday at the supermarket I needed some change for a $10 and I asked the cashier, "Could you please pet peeve two fives for this 10?" And of course she replied "I'd be pet peeved happy to do that." But then she gave me the change in singles and that really pet peeved the hell out me as well as my pet cat "Peeved" who was with me that day.
Well, I think I've covered everything for my , haven't I...theme subs, the term pet peeve...I stuck in a little educational material about special effects work in the movies...hmmmmm, I think you should all pay me for that so I'm taking back and you can just divide the amount among yourselves...which brings up another pet peeve - dividing up restaurant checks at the end of a big meal...Ever notice how with guys we're all doing this macho grabbing of the check out of each other hands - "I got that! - No, I'll take it! - Hey, it's on me today!" We do that because if you aggressively grab the check from eachother enough times it eventually becomes this little crumpled ball of paper that the waitress can't read and then we all just SPLIT the new lower balance and leave the difference as the TIP! See, we're not so stupid . Okay, so maybe we are...but, come on, you gotta love us sometimes, don't cha? :drinklaugh:
(Hey, I'm gonna go change the theme for the "Open Arms" sub I made to the current Mother's Day theme category because, hey, the guy in the song was in bed with the girl so I think she got pregnant and they had a kid so now she's a mom and it's a theme song! And the best part is - now that gives me the theme song for Father's Day week, too! :oh yeah: )
Love you all! Group hug! (Mmmmmmm, just thinking about who was in this group - wow, that was a GREAT hug! LOL )

I think a lot of what you're saying is people just being a little ignorant (or not really caring) about what genre it is. But I think lots of people would label Eagles as country as well as pop/rock. It depends on the song. I'll bet some of their songs crossed over on the country charts in the 70's. There were a lot of artists who did then (and some who do now). I get annoyed when someone puts a song in the wrong decade, too. But, it's not that big of a deal They are probably just in a rush.

Suzanne.......You are right about the Eagles. They were pretty big on the
"Country" scene. Pop, Southern Rock and Country have seemed to come
together over the past two decades and all three genres claim some of the
same songs. Even some of the old rock and roll oldies are now considered
Country. Country has changed alot. It is not just your southern hillbilly music
anymore.
