Wait now Matt, you say this guy has legal discs for all his shows, correct me if I'm wrong. But if everything he has is legal, then he can charge whatever he wants. It's called the free enterprise system and is toally legal. You may not like it but that's business.

oh yeah, it's definately the walmart running the mom and pop places outta town.
I never said I didn't respect his business enterprise... but I don't like his tactics, his policies, nor his shows (been to a couple). He's a drunk, and he's ruining karaoke.
THAT I don't have to like. There's nothing I can do about it other than be the best I can be...

Matt, in the past it's been the KJ's burning discs that you've complained the most about. What this person has is basically a franchise. If you had done the same thing I'm sure there are others that would be saying the same thing about you.
There are ways to handle dealing with franchises who seem to hold the majority of the market. In the end, if he's setting the rate for an out of the box show of average quality then you either need to have a better quality or lower price.
Offer additional items as upcharges. Things like lights, fog/smoke, expanded libraries, profanity free, etc are all items you can use to 'expand' your show and bring increased revenue. Marketing is all about either offering a lower price, or a better product. Increasing per show show revenue can be done by improving quality or offering 'upcharges' for some items. Mr. October has done this by highlighting different singers and himself to provide entertainment and he has a regular crowd as a result. He's marketed something that draws the people into the bar and offers a chance for him to make more money as a result.
In the end, you can either complain about the person or do something about it. If it botthers you so much I'd make it my personal goal to cut his shows in half in the span of a year. It wouldn't be that hard given the lack of quality and cookie cutter shows you mention.

ed, I'm NOT complaining about him... only clariifying why we can't get the rates that others are talking about. As far as I'm concerned... if he's successful, he's earned it. I don't have the time to go that indepth... I have a regular job that I wouldn't give up for this.
Someone asked, and I explained... that's all.
