Ok, some of the folks here at SS (not necessarily ME! ) Are thinking of doing a group 'Broadway Musical' project. If you are interested in listening or taking part, please vote on your favorite musical so we can decide which one to do, get all the tracks & get organized.
I've set the poll to run for 30 days, but hurry up & get your votes in!
Also, post to let me know that you HAVE voted (cause there are some folks I KNOW will not want to miss this).

I voted for Les Mis... my favorite part to sing is Eponine (an alto), but I could also do Cosette if nobody else wanted to try the soprano part...

I'm definitely very interested in participating but I'd have to listen to them all again to see which songs I could even do if any!! So....I'll vote later!
Great idea!

MY FAIR LADY!!!!! My favorite musical of ALL time....
" ohhhh woouldn't iiiiiit be looverly!!"
"The raaaain in Spain stays maaaainly on the plaaain"
"I warshed me face n 'ands before I come, I did"
"you 'spect me to git there and wet melself all ovah?"
and the BEST line EVER:
"COME ON DOVAH!!! MOVE YA BLOOMIN' A$$"
!! KILLS ME EVERY TIME!!!
my second choice would be Calamity Jane (was that on broadway?) But ya didn't have it as an option!!
"ooh never underestimate a woman's touch"
"I just came back from the windy city!! The Windy City is mighty purdy, but it ain't got what weee got... I'm tellin ya boooyyys! I'd rather have old Dagwood City than all of Illinois!!"
ok.... pay no attention to the loon behind the screen... I'm excited to hear whatever ya pick!!

Rocky Horror Picture Show! It's a cult classic! Great singers - Tim Curry, Meatloaf, Susan Sarandon, Little Nell, so many others...
I could see doing others, but how about a 'Broadway' project and allow them to do songs from any of them? We could group the songs on the disc by musical....

Yeah, I think it would be cool for everyone to get a chance to do all of their favorite musical pieces, but part of the fun of the 'challenge' is to possibly get a few folks to step outside their normal bounds & do a piece they normally wouldn't (at least I think so) heheh
I like My Fair Lady also, Crystal I just LOVE Hepburn in that movie.. she is such a perfect 'Eliza'... although I have heard that Julie Andrews actually did ALL of her singing vocals.. I would love to know for sure.
Heck, if we do that one, I might even try a bit of it myself.... I also know The Sound of Music pretty well, CC (not that i'm going to be brave enough to do this, but I would love to hear everyone else).
Ok, this is cool I'm glad it's getting interest. I might even put up a webpage on our site when the project is finished, with a 'mini-musical' section & put up the tracks in order for folks to hear.
Thanks folks!! I wonder which one we will get??

I voted for Rocky Horror, but I'm game for ANY of those (I know them all very well).
I think you should have different people do different songs, not just one person per part (if that makes sense). Like, not just one person singing Janet's part on all of her songs, but a different Janet per song. Cuz you know everyone wants to sing the leads

That's what I was thinking, Suzanne... give more folks a chance to sing. We can work out the details of who gets to sing which songs later. I think I'll make it a 'first come, first served' type of thing. After the musical is decided on, we'll have a thread where I list all the songs (and parts) and folks can say what they want to sing.
First person to post that they want to sing a part in a song gets it (if the message it edited, it doesn't count!!) and there will be only one part allowed per post. I can't think of a more fair way of doing it. After all, it's a 'fun' project, not meant to win any Emmy's or anything.
That way, folks who want to participate will have to pay attention!! heheh There can be more than one person in line for a part also, so if the first person doesn't get their part in 'on time', the second person will have a crack at it.
Sound like a plan?

I also think that it is a REALLY good idea to cast the SONGS and not have just one person playing the role the whole way through. Like it was said, that will allow for many more people to get involved!! I think we should do all the shows mentioned.. Just do one at a time. Like pick the one with the most votes and start with it, and then when it's completed, move on to the next one.. This could be an ongoing kinda project ... Anyhow, great idea, and HELLO and a big HUG to everyone since I haven't seen y'all in so long
Of course you can be involved, Jazzy!
I've set the poll to run for 30 days... looks like right now we have a tie between 'The Sound of Music' and 'Rocky Horror Picture Show'! Both great musicals. I agree with you though, the plan had been to simply use the poll to pick the first musical to work on, then do the others afterward, so it's 'ongoing'.
I even plan to donate some time and webspace for the project on our own server, so each 'musical' can be listed with the soundtracks in order, etc.
We may be losing our internet connection soon temporarily... but if so I hope to be back online well before the poll ends to keep this running. If I am not, I may have to designate someone else to take over for a bit. I will get to a public computer to check up on the progress if we do lose our internet.
Anyone interested in volunteering to 'direct' this musical in my possible abscense?
It would involve keeping tabs on this thread, gathering a list of the songs for whatever 'show' we do first, posting that list on a separate thread to allow folks to 'sign up' for the parts, helping drive the effort to obtain the backings for the songs, posting an announcement of role & song assignments (and 'seconds' - if available, in case the first person drops out), making sure folks get their parts finished in a reasonable amount of time, making a announcement with and helping to get the various pieces uploaded in an organized fashion.
Ok, I didn't say it would be 'easy'... L-O-L
thanks for all the interest, folks! I know there are still some people out there who haven't seen this yet, so I'm hoping to hear something from them as well. Where are the GUYS for instance?? oh JASON!!!

Do you expect ANYBODY to believe that an equation featuring Gilly could equal anything bad????
No chance... You CAN sing and I for one hope you'll be onvolved... even as a chorus member if you don't want to do solo!!

Oh, don't worry, I am used to going solo.....
But, back to reality.. I REALLY don't think that, Me, and Showtunes mix. Seriously, it would be like asking my boyfriend, AND my husband both on a date. Just doens't mix.. (now, my GIRLfriend, and my husband, maybe..)

Gilly, admittedly, some showtunes may not be a good fit (I don't see it but I suppose you know best) but there are some musicals that have some songs that aren't your typical 'showtune'. RHPS (Rocky Horror Picture Show) for example, has a couple rockin' numbers by Meatloaf, and Dr. Scott (can't remember his name) and a few others. Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair, and a number of other broadway musicals offer a lot of things outside of the typical Rogers and Hammerstein or Gershwin type music that people often associate with 'showtunes'.
Wait for the choice to come up and you might just be surprised you can pull off a couple of the songs!
All that aside... come on RHPS! I only dressed and acted in the local movie theatre in Pensacola, Florida for over 5 years twice a week. I can have most of the hand movements for Dr. F down after more than 10 years of not doing the show.... I'd love to actually sing a song or two from the show!
