Hey all!  I have been a KJ here in Grand Island, Nebraska, for close to 2 years now.  I started out as a sub for a company out of Lincoln, using his system and discs.  He gave me 1 nights training and everything else I've figured out on my own.  Needless to say, 2 weeks after giving birth to my daughter, he either wanted me back at work or to pay rent of $350 week for his equipment.  Here's the kicker.... he offered to sell me the system for $4500 cash!  LOL  I didn't stutter when telling him to come get his gear!  I then invested in my own custom made system, with a CAVS 1099, dual disc player, with both KJ and DJ capabilities, with over 10,300 songs (only 50 duplicates!) all for about $750 more than he wanted for his old used stuff.  I am excited about finding this site, because there are so many things I can learn about here.  It's also comforting to know that it isn't just lack of training that causes some of the snags I hit, but that you all hit them too!  I am really interested in learning about recording myself!  I didn't know that could be done (if I can figure out those programs that look so confusing).  Any help or tips (in plain English, please) would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome.  I'm sure you'll enjoy it here and will find plenty of people willing to share their experiences and advice.  As far as recording software goes, I'm not the best person to ask because I haven't used any in quite awhile.  A lot of people here use Cool Edit Pro.  Others use Adobe Audition.  Both should be available for free download if you google them.

For detailed advice on how to use them, especially Cool Edit Pro, you can check the technical help forum.  In all likelihood you'll hit a few snags, so just come back and tell people what problem you're having when you get stuck.  Good luck.

Hey Tom!

Thanks for the encouragement and additional software to check out.  I appreciate it greatly.  I've been getting more and more excited the more I think about how fun it will be to actually make a song with me singing......for other people to hear!  How great is that?

I'll let you know just how long the excitement overrides the confusion when I get near that fine line!

Welcome!   Around here, if you say you started out as a sub for a company, it would mean that they uploaded you to the Singer's Showcase (we usually refer to their song submissions as "subs") either for a rank or just for fun.  :D  But welcome and I look forward to hearing your subs!
