I am kicking around the notion of computerizing my show, and while I really like the Karaoke-go-round stuff by ASP, it is WAY more expensive than I am looking for.  I hear a lot about Sax & Dotty's on these boards, so I went to their website and downloaded the demo.  Problem is I can't get it to do ANYTHING, and the help feature must be disabled in the demo.

If you are using this product, please let me know how easy it is to convert from a CDG system to using this system.

So far, I'm pretty disappointed with the inability to try the demo software.

I've Been using it for a little over a year now and it's a fantastic little piece of software.  A few trouble shooting things first.

1. Do you have winamp installed to the c:\program files\winamp  directory?

2. Do you have the .CDG plugin for winamp installed.

If you don't you will need both of those things before it will do anything.

Next you have to have a few cdg's ripped to mp3+g zipped.  In english you need to have transfered some disks to your hard drive.  Each song should have two files a whatever.mp3 file and a whatever.cdg file.  The program I use to do this is called audiograbber, it's free and works great, just do a google search for audiograbber. Then you have to combine these files into a single whatever.zip file.  It might sound complicated but believe me it's super easy.

Then you have to import those files into sax & Dotty then you can start using it.

There are other alternatives too.   MTU Hoster costs more - currently on sale at around $140  But I think it's worth it.... one program to install not something with a ton of secondary programs you have to be compatible with. Sax -N- Dotty's IS inexpensive at around $45 .... but it's just a front end for a bunch of other programs... winamp + this + that + yadda, yadda yadda.

And of course there are electronic songbooks too: like THIS one.[/url]

Hoster is my preference as well.  I think the kma files it produces sound much cleaner & closer to the actual cdg than the mp3g format.
Hoster will also play the mp3g & you can import from mp3g & bin files from your hard drive as well.
