Well, I just was let out the hospital yesterday. I went in with a raging fever,
lungs messed up totally, and felt like I was truly dying. Class virus - type - characteristic of the Avian Flu group - similiar to Spanish Flu.
That night as I waited for them to start pumping in something to fight what my body was really losing against I thought - geez I will never be able to sub again. No actually that wasn't my thought. I as in the life and death mode, my breain scorched with fever and feeling mildly retarded. Natures way of making death less painful.
So they brought out the big guns antivirals and puff treatments and tried to manage the pain which headwise was unreal. Like the worst migraine you could think of and relentless.
Days later as my temp dipped to a safer 100.8 and below 100 once I said to my doctor I think I can handle this from here. By that time, Syber had done a 24 vigil at my bedside was getting it bad.
I escaped. For Seb's friends she is in bed now, fairly stable but unable to get up really.
Just wanted to say it truly sucks that everytime I almost get well, I get something else which messes up my voice for weeks at a time.
The reason my voice subs don't sound what they could sound like is I have been the victim of at least 6-12 sore throats and colds.
To sub or not so sub when you are a good singer and your voice sounds pretty bad..people are not going to understand those shaky notes or whatever.
Anyway - coming to from KS twilight zone on a gazzilion little pills from Mr. Doc to make us not know our body is going thorough hell.

As soon as Seby can get to the computer I will try to snag Crystal or Gilly.

JVJ, As an ex-owner of parakeets, and smaller parrots; (Also having been employed in the medical field) I am quite familiar with the severity of the Influenza type A (H5) virus. That can be deadly, Glad you're OK.
As much as I love those little critters, they can carry some nasty viruses, and bacterial infections.
, I caught Chlamydia from my cockatiel once..... (if you can stop laughing long enough to say that fast three times you're pretty good). Yet Psittacosis is VERY commonly transmitted from infected pet birds, to their owners. Symptoms are often just nasty respiratory infections, and in the case of the H7 virus I think conjunctivitis. Some nasty microorganisms in certain aviary breeding conditions, and bird to human infections and viruses are really common, so much so, that some how, the avian veterinarian diagnosed and prescribed antibiotics for me.
Fevers can be nasty, I had about 105+ for a week when I was 6 (measles prior to vaccine). Hallucinations, and possible viral enceph. as a result.
Hope that explains things
Glad you're OK....Nasty stuff !

....I don't know if it'll work for you but for me between the months of October and May its 600 mg of Ester C in the morning (with food) and 600 mg of Ester C later in the day (with food), every day no skipping, keeps the colds/sore throats away....
Hope you feel better, although you might feel worse once they take the fun pills away......

JVJ ~~ so glad to see you up and about ....
Now I am more worried about Perry.
Seby and I had been talking ... and comparing symptoms ~~ and it sure sounded like Perry had what you had. He's been VERY sick since Tuesday morning... FEVER was outta control on Friday night (Bed got so wet from his sweat that we had to change all the bedding ~~ it was soaked like someone had turned a hose on us). Scary stuff. Headache is now under control... but fever is still around 101 and dizziness and extreme fatigue continues (5 days later~~ .)
And ... as for seeing a doctor ~~ NOT gonna happen for this guy~~ NO HEALTH INSURANCE and we don't have the $130.00 for the office visit ... much less what they'd charge at the drug store if they decided to treat with meds of any type. (God Bless the USA ~~ We take SUCH good care of our OWN, huh?) :banghead: ..... Been doing tons of fluids, some food and rest, aspirin... etc. OTC stuff.
I came down with a much lesser version on Thursday ... fever was like 100.5 for 3 days ... but as I type this ..... fever is only 99 and I am less achy.
We own NO birds. Im very worried now ~~
Tell Seby I am thinking of her ~~ and I hope both of you will be feeling a lot better soon.
Hugz for ya both ~~

Hey Steve. Yep the birdie virus is a nasty one. And we have a bird (shared) cockatiel named Mutt. Talk about an identity crisis. He a talker.
My all time high fever was 106 with Rubella which I had in basic before Vietnam.
They made me run the obstacle course and I kept telling my drill sargeant (Sir, yes, Sir, I am sick) which his reply was shut up you little (@$%!) and run it you
meatball *******.
I made the course and then collapsed. I had already been to the clinic once, they didnt'' take my temp and hadn't even looked at my chest. When I took my shirt off I was covered with red spots.
But still here to tale the tale (Moby Dick)
This would be a real problem if we were on tour. Because when my voice goes ( and it is not that fantastic to begin with) I cannot sing anything.
I may put up 99.5 today as a joke.

aww thanks sweety! (hugs)
Yeah, he was pretty sick, upwards of 103 temp... mine didn't go very high (thankfully), or if it did, it went up the other night while I was trying to sleep. In any case, doing better now. Still have junk in the lungs, but fever seems to have broken & is normal.
Jvj usually runs a 'low' temp also, so his getting a fever was really bizarre. Anyway, glad it seems to be over with now. Just lung residuals to deal with. :p
Thanks for the concern babe

heheh (HUGS BACK) yeah... that fever started climbing up while I was talking to ya. BTW- Shotgun & her man have been suffering from (what sounds like) the exact same thing. Let's hope they're doing ok now also.
I didn't think I was going to have to take him in, but 103 is too high. Glad mine didn't get up there... sheesh. Scary stuff.
Anyways, thanks for the well wishes & stuff (having trouble typeing for some reason.. blah) you take care too.

Hey Cindy babe... I feel for ya geez...
Yeah, my temp was getting up there.. heading toward 101, then I took a bunch of stuff which knocked me out.. then fever was around 100 degrees most of the day yesterday and now seems to have gone away (yay) although, I'm really thinking that whatever this is effects the brain a good deal. I'm having trouble typeing right now and the 'headache' thing... anyway, it's good that you didn't get too horrible sick & Perry's temp has come down some (with meds, jvj's temp stayed around 100+ for a few days).
If you can get crystalline C (the powdered kind) into him... mix it with some type of juice (grape, orange, lemonaide) he might start doing better. Sounds like you made it past the 'crisis' stage anyway... whew...
He probably should have gone in to the hosp.. but I know what you mean about lack of health coverage. I don't have any either, so if I get too sick 'tough luck'.
Hope Perry's fever breaks soon... you two take care & try get well. (hugs)

Well, it sounds like Perry's fever should break soon. Since I am a Vietnam Vet I am covered, but hospital costs being what they are, and dealing with viral flu, it is a tough call as when to go in. And the tougher call is what they can actually do for you.
The drug I was given Amantadine is supposedly serious anti viral stuff - but many new strains are immune to it.
What I was told by ER at Veteran's was if it goes over 102 then things are getting serious enough to go in. I almost knocked it with about 70 grams of C (not recommended ) and went to normal then stop taking the C and then went into crisis mode.
I think many of us have become close friends in here, and don't think for a moment it isn't the real thing. If we were to meet in person, and I have done this (I met Syber on line) there's not much a of jump once the foundation is laid for a friendship.
We love you guys

Wow, I am sooo glad to hear everyone's doing better! I hate being sick, worst part being that I can't sing!! And then when you think you can sing again, it's really another week before you can REALLY sing again!

 Thanks sweety!!! You were there for us too... this was one scary bug.
Obviously... we're doing much better now also. I had a small relapse, my fever came back & I was in bed all day yet again... but I'm pretty much recovered now (still a lingering cough). Hubby has been through the wringer, his fever never came back (fortunately), his cough is considerably better (though still yucky) and for both of us, our energy level is coming back.
We are now struck with some intestinal bug... but we're happy to be on the road to recovery. We're SO GLAD to hear that Perry is doing better. We were truly worried about him. Give him a wave from us. We're trying to play with some music in the hopes that it will speed our recovery (or maybe just cause we're having withdrawal) heheh
Love ya gal!! (HUGS)

I have been sick twice in the past month! I got sick about three weeks ago--sore throat, fever, feeling crappy, lasted 4 days. Then on Thursday I got sick with a fever and feeling crappy. I went to the doctor on Friday. She doesn't think it's a cold but probably a virus. She had me take a bunch of tests but i won't know the results until at least Monday.
I am feeling better and haven't had a fever since yesterday, so hopefully I am over it. But I'm bummed because I had started trying to record some new Canadian songs and just didn't feel well enough to continue.
I'm supposed to go out of town tomorrow and I just don't know how I am going to be ready in time......SIGH!!!
I hope you are all having a better May!

We have gotten better since that nasty 'flu' (which incidentally, turned out to be 'Influenza A'). Or some strain of that... it's what showed up in the culture.
Recently, we've had yet ANOTHER bug of some type (or possibly multiple bugs), part of which is causing low level lung congestion and coughing, but has given me a rasp!!! (i almost want to keep this particular bug).
OL!
