what? having a 40gb external hard drive? !

The whole thing.  Can't believe they were the first to actually come out with it.  The GB will only grow in time.  Just as HD's in regular computers.  A couple years ago, a 200 gig HD was way over the top - no one would ever fill that up.  Now it's almost standard equipment in the K-Mart specials.
40 gig can still store quite a bit of music, may not be enough to hold most's entire libraries, but the most requested songs.

That's way too expensive guy's, it's a laptop hard drive in an external case!!

You can buy a good Seagate 60gig, 8meg, 7200 rpm hard drive for a laptop and just buy an external case with both USB2 and Firewire for half the price?  Or, if the size is not an issue, get a standard 200 gig hard drive (5 1/4) with an external case for even less?  Oh, doesn't ipod have a 40 gig drive that is smaller than this, selling for less too?  Keep in mind that an ipod or the creative models are actual laptop drive that could be use for external storage, that's what I do with mine, got all my mp3+g files conneted to my laptop!

I think it does a little more than just being a hard drive.  Once loaded, it will act as the player without the aide of a computer.  It has audio & video outputs & key changer built in - essentially a hand held CAVS unit, except with a samll HD.  Thing I can't see is how to change or cue songs without it actually appearing on the screen which will make it useless for a show, but at least it's a start that other "karaoke" manufacturers besides CAVS are thinking about the future.

Correct, it's like an ipod with the ability to play mp3+g on it's own not just for storage!

What are these guy's waiting for at Mac (ipod) and Creative?  They've got the Hardware/software but just need to add the plugin and voila!!

Suprised nobody's knocked the name of the maker yet.....who's gonna try it out for us all? and come back with a report.

Crap?  Do you honestly think that Sound Choice is the only company that has quality??? I have tracks from Elton John that is by far superior quality on other brands than SC, they are capable of good arrangement but some are just terrible and VERY often on the wrong key!

LMAO you CAN load soundchoice onto CAVS or anything ya like, whether Soundchoice likes it or not is another matter... oh they will whine and cry and scream "piracy" but as long as it is a legally purchased disk they won't do anything about it... hell they won't do anything about illegally obtained discs or truely "pirated" material so it is really a moot point about what you can do or not do with karaoke disks... blah blah blah - tig

Yeah, BC even admitted on their soundboard that they got their butts handed to them in a sling in many court cases... and that's them going after LEGIT owners of their material that converted to copies or computer!

I think it's perfectly okay to obey the "common sense" letter of the law. If you have the disc in your hand, you CAN convert it to a computerized or Jukebox format.

I guess then you'd still be using Pioneer or yamaha burners, cause they USED to be the best... but now Plextor is known to be the best. At least when it's coming up computerized karaoke!

I won't misjudge a product SIMPLY because of the name. Granted, vocopro has some misgivings as far as a karaoke product... but there are people on this site that DO swear by them. Beat-mixing it's almost a given that their players are the best, and auto-cueing, and other features that have made VocoPro a name.

I PERSONALLY don't like them much, but I will keep my mind open on this and any products that they or other companies come out with. As with all things, experience is a voice to be heard, but not necessarily does that mean that things WON'T change for the better.

Pop Hits Monthly as a brand greatly improved their product. So did Top Hits Monthly, and even Nutech and Music Maestro has improved. If I went by my earlier impresson of those guys, I'd have remained with SC... and would have missed out on a lot.

I also never would have tried EK and Sunfly/Legends... The initial Zoom discs I'd heard were less than stellar, and never would I have tried the Sing To The World brand either! ALL to my regret!

 They're all soundin better to me but I wonder at times if it's just because I'm finally learning how to tune all this stuff I got hooked up.

I really think they are finding better bands for the particular genres and adding the proper efx..

 If we still had competition in the petroleum industry we could afford the gas to get to our gigs...

A couple of misconceptions regarding this product to clear up...

1. It does NOT support MP3+G
2. It WILL run standalone without a computer
3. The hard drive is upgradable so you can put in any size they have out there.  If it's a 2.5" drive then one of the newer 100GB drives would satisfy almost ANY show.

Note that they discuss ripping the tracks to DIVX.  They basically turn the CDG's into movies.  I've converted CDG's into VCD's before I had a good burner that would do CDG's reliably.

If the 40GB will hold 10,000 songs, a 100GB model would hold at least 25,000 songs.  That most than almost every single show I'm aware of (with a few exceptions).  Drop some of the worst versions of songs and you'll likely be well within that range.

Seems interesting, but I'm wondering how you would cue up singers and how they manage 10,000 songs.  A single scroll list would be too much trouble and I know people already having problems with just a couple thousands tracks on a pc.

I'd like to know more... anyone played with one first hand?

Heya JAM ... thanks for bringing us this great link. This indeed is a sizzling new product. I am a little concerned that it won't even be stocked 'till 4/22 (if it makes it by then) and will be out of date in 60 days. Maybe even before your next bithday they will be 120 GIGS and cost 1/10th of this advertised price. Buy this one for your cool immediate needs, then hang on for the sweep of technology to knock you off your feet.
