It was about 5 years ago. A bunch of us girls were out and I had a little too much "liquid courage" and decided I was Loretta Lynn. I sang "You Ain't Woman Enough". It was terrible! But after that the KJ would try to get me up to sing.......She started helping me find some songs I was comfortable with and I have been singing ever since. I've always loved music but never really thought about singing until Karaoke came along.

I've sung all my life, that I can remember. But... my first true Karaoke performance was about 4 yrs. ago. My boyfriend, a popular KJ/DJ in this area (did I know this when I met him.... NOOOOOOOO !!!) was doing a weekly KJ gig at one of the Pubs here in town. When we met, he casually asked me if I enjoyed music ... and of course, I went on and on about loving to sing, play flute... etc.
Welllll... one night he asked me to go to a Karaoke show..... yup, you guessed it ... HIS. I just sat and listened.... fascinated. He asked why I didn't sing... and I just laughed and said ... the shower and car are basically where I do my singing these days.
The following week..... as we prepared to head to the show .... he asked; "You gonna sing tonight?".... I said ..... probably not. He didn't say too much ..... but the first hour of the show was unusually quiet that night.... and he looks over at my table... and gives the "sing or else look"... that I've come to know quite well..... :grumble:
So .... me being me ..... :reddevil: .... I think to myself "Fine, you want me to sing.... I'll sing ya a song" ....
I put in my slip .... and get called up about 6 singers later. On comes "You're So Vain" ... by Carly Simon.... one of the few songs I knew I could really "sing" ....
As the music begins... I simply said .... this is dedicated to the KJ ..... !!
To this day ... whenever I get up to sing that song.... (I now cohost the show) ... I get the "don't dedicated this one to me or else LOOK" ..... but I still do.... :clapper: hehehe!!!

I first started Karoke one Thursday in May of 1994. I have sung most of my life, been in chorus in school, and a few attempted bands. I used to sing in a friend's band, when I would go to his shows. Well, I was dating this girl, and I was singing in my car, and she told me I should try Karaoke. I had never heard of it. So she took me, and I sang "Wonderful Tonight". I got a great reaction from the crowd, and got hooked. I have been a Karaoke addict since. Now when I first started the selection was quite limited. But over the years, more and more of the music that I like has been released. I'm mostly a metalhead. So with several Whitesnake songs available, and Black Sabbath, and Judas Priest, and such, I enjoy it more now, than when I started. I'll sing anything from Led Zeppelin to Disturbed, to Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young.

I lost my karaoke cherry in 2004... can't remember what month it was, but probably around June or July. It was a small restaurant in Sprague River, Oregon called 'The Ornery Mare'. A friend of ours hosted a karaoke night, neither of us had ever been to karaoke before and thought it was kinda silly.
I ended up singing harmony on a really bizzarre version of 'Desperado' with JVJ (that was also his first karaoke experience) and then sang 'Dream a Little Dream' (it was the only song I knew the words well enough to give it a go).
The crowd was small, but happy and the rotation was very small. We got to hear a few people a BUNCH of times, but we were too nervous to put in more slips. We had a good time though!

Let's see......My addiction started back in.....ooops wrong story!
It was 1994, I was still sneaking in to bars, and one of my friends convinced me that the karoke host would buy 1st time singers "liquid courage", and once you had that, they wouldn't ID you. Well, he was right. My 1st song was Brown Eyed Girl, and I will never forget the look on their faces when 2 years later, they helped me celebrate my 21st birthday..........

Went down to the bar one night about 10 years ago, and lo and behold, there was a guy there doing karaoke...It was the first time I'd ever SEEN karaoke. Well, after a couple Bud Lites, I decided to sign up and sing Heaven is a Place on Earth...Then the following week I went back and sang The Rose...So everyone knew, for the next 3 months or so (until I finally got the guts to expand), that I was there, so they would definitely hear those two songs! Been hooked ever since.
I never sang a note in front of anyone ever before that night. I am a pianist. I guess karaoke at Goodtimes brought me out of my shell! And the rest is history!
