Please Help!
My set up...  2 Yamaha S115 Speakers, 500 - 1000W, QSC 2450 Amp with Clip filter on, Filter set at 50Hz, and running stereo mode, an RSQ 3-tray karaoke player and finally, a Behringer UB1204FX-PRO Mixer.

What Happens...  I run karaoke at a few local pubs.  About 3-8 times a night a person will be singing and the music stops for about 2-3 seconds.  Microphones still work, cuz the karaoke singer is singing without the music...  Then it comes back, usually the words are jumbled up.  Appears to me that the CD is skipping.  I've swapped out the player for another one of the same type, but no help.  Usually happens the louder I have the music & microphone.

What do I do now?  I've had someone tell me that the bass is building up in the room and that when someone hits the microphone a little louder than normal the CD Player skips.  I've had someone else tell me that my mixer may have limiters on it.  I've been told to upgrade my player and I've been told to look into a new mixer.

I'm new to all of the technical terms and how a lot of this stuff works.  I've ran karaoke for about 4 years now, but this is the first time I have bought my own stuff.  Everything I have is brand new.  Other than the "skipping", I love the set-up and it sounds great...

Appreciate any help!

Where is your player in relation to your speakers?  Since it happens when it gets louder, your speakers are too close OR they are giving enough vibration for whatever the player is sitting on causing it to skip.  Changing a mixer won't stop skipping.  Cutting the bass may, other than that - change your speaker positions & get the player further away.

What Lonman said - also have you ever cleaned the optics on your CDG player?  Could be dirty in there - check your discs for finger prints and scratches, CDG's are more touchy about damage than a CD (so I've noticed in my expereince).  While the old Pioneer laser discs - man you could sneeze on one of those and clean it off with sand paper and it would still work*

* Don't try that at home boys & girls

Thanks for the reply guys...  The player is not rack-mountable, therefore I have it sitting on a universal rack shelf above my amp and below my mixer.  My speakers are easily 20 feet away.  Should I try insalating the player somehow?  If I try turning down the bass a little would I turn down the microphone or the music.  (The player never skips when it's just regular music playing, it's only when someone is singing karaoke.)

Thanx again guys!

maybe this is the CDG player's way of telling that person they stink LOL or protesting karaoke in general...

ya might try getting a shock pad for it- used to use them under my Technic 1200 turntables way back when... are you running the mics thru the player or the mixer??? if they are corded mics then it may be the singer tugging the mic cords and causing the player to skip... sounds like ya might be far enough away from the speakers to eliminate the bass as a problem but are you setup near a dance floor or an area where people dance?  environmental interferance can cause similiar symptoms as bass or mechanical failure... some things ot check out...- tig

Sounds like your player needs some servicing or a good cleaning.

The optics is mounted on a balanced spring assemlby which is subject to vibrations esp in the bass range.  We have set the table on a thick rug and also set the player on a thick soft mat.  This usually  helps considerably....
