There have been times when the crowd was absolutely dead and gave no energy back to the singers. I have left bars totally emotionally drained and out of gas. It isnt applause that counts, its dancers on the floor, and the crowd paying attention when somebody is singing. I dont need applause but when I get done with a song and everybody in the place is chattering with a new energy I know I did my part.  Working and judging  crowd either as a singer or host  comes with experience.

But when the magic is there and  a delicate balance is maintained with all (dont ask me  how to define it or produce it) old singers spirits are attracted  and add to the festivities and atmosphere.  I have sang old Hank Williams songs like Your Cheatin Heart and felt him there and unfamiliar emotions almost overwhelmed me, along with other artists. Sometimes I exceed my talent or come up with a brilliant thought and I know that it didnt spring from this addled mind.. Maybe you dont believe in ghosts but I'll tell you what their energy is still there and I think they are providing inspiration to these new artists and maybe even still writin songs.

I would give my left arm to hear Kitty Wells or Patsy Cline sing When I Think About Cheatin.  Am I nuts?

I notice this too sometimes.  When the place only has 10 people and only 2 want to have fun while the rest are crying about how bad life is it makes the show hard.....it's possible to turn it around, just hard to.

However we had a benefit for the soldiers in Iraq one night and played all heavy metal songs based on wars and patriotism, I couldn't beleive how up that place was!
