I'm looking for a small, portable, and preferably battery operated CDG player for occasional use when I travel.

I'm basically looking for soemthing similar to this (from a sponsor):

http://www.dtskaraoke.com/rjrjpo7tftlc.html

Has anyone used this equipment or have something to recommend in lieu of this unit?  I'm concerned over the sweep speed of this unit since I've had a problem with a couple of other units from this company.

Remember, it has to be an all in one unit (including video) that I can use - and I'm not interested in using my laptop and MP3+CDG (or something simlar) - yet.  Initially, this is for my wedding reception in October of this year where I want to be able to sing a couple songs and allow others to sing as well and I won't be able to haul a complete setup.  I'll make arrangements to rent a small pa system while I'm there (somthing akin to my existing Fender PD-250) to play to the small crowd or if we opt to hire a DJ we'll arrange to connect to his setup.

Thanks for any ideas...

I bought a tiny player from a local store for $40 that was a karaoke player... but it piped out the audio and video... so it's meant to hook up to a stereo, or at least a stereo tv.

For $299,00 US I wouldn't touch!  I would get a laptop, use Karawin or Winamp and just read the mp3+g files from a DVD-RW if space is an issue!  In my case, I use my ipod 40 gig to read my mp3+g files.

How much is an Acer Laptop in your area? It sells for $899.00 CND here, I would spend on something that could give me more... just my toughts :)

How do you convert your CDG's to mp3+g files to use with an iPod?

I don't know if I'll have time to convert all my discs between now and then.  I just want a basic player that if I 'had' to I could use as a bckup - and even though I have at least half a dozen laptops here at my house I want a small player to take with.  I 'could' use a laptop, but I'm not planning on going digital until next winter.

Matt, what was the model number on the unit you purchased? It might be similar to what I'm looking for but this unit has the added feature of allowing me to watch a movie on the flight with the built in screen (yes, a laptop will allow me play the DVD's or I could just put them on the hard drive - but I don't have time to rip over 400 movies to put on a harddrive either).  And no, I haven't ripped all my CD's to MP3's either.  I have about 25,000 tracks from 2 services (1 subscription and 1 pay per track) and haven't converted the 4-500 cd's yet.  I did do some of them a couple years ago at 128kbps CBR but I'm trying to move everything to at least 192kbps VBR and I just don't have the time to invest into the conversion right now.

My mp3+g files are all in my 160gig drive in my desktop computer, so I copy and paste the folder in my ipod! In fact, this device uses a Laptop hard drive so that's what I'm using it for!  This fonction can be activated using itunes.

Once you import your cdg's in your hard drive, you can than burn the folder or selected file on any disk, DVD, CDR just by using a burner software like Nero, Adaptec...  Than, you can read the disk like if it was a hard drive!

Well, I guess time would be the issue here.  I imported all my tracks in 320k using a Lame encoder because it has to sound right and with any commercial encoder it just sound so bad even at 320k.  Now, I would like to re-import everything again but this time, I'll use the wma format, Karawin can read wma+g so this way at 128k it will sound almost like a wave file!

Hi Micky,

When you convert your CD+G disk files to mp3+g files to use with iTunes, do you lose the graphics?  Can you still see the song words when the music plays?

How do you get CD+G in iTunes?  Is it possible?

Cheers!

Meister,

I never could find that $40 model, but Sound Choice has a model that they use for their Performer's Choice line:

http://www.soundchoice.com/products/har ... dex2.shtml on that page. You can't order it online, too new! LOL! BUT you can call them!
