Do you get turned on by certain karaoke rotation rules?

Funny, in four and a half years of going to karaoke bars I finally figured out how rotations work! I always thought it was you sang in the order that your turned in yoru request. I like the system because when I go with a group I like to record our group to make a CD. If we all turn in our song requests together, we'll all be consecutive, so when the last singers goes I can pause the taperecorder. Just keep track of who the last person before our group is, as soon as he's done, un-pause the tape, record everyone in my group, then re-pause. This keeps stopping and starting to a minimum because that's hard on any equipment with a lot of moving parts, and reel to reel taperecorders are electro-mechanical which means they are sloppin' over with moving parts.

It doesn't always work that way. Not to shatter your new view of the world but...
When I'm hosting and say I have a starting rotation of 8 or 10 and suddenly it goes to 20 or 25 in the span of 15 or 20 minutes, I will blend in some of the new singers with those already in rotation. Otherwise singer number one might find themselves waiting 24 songs before going up again - which translates into about two hours. It's not a perfect system and one thing I learned a long time ago - I will NEVER make everyone happy.

This was last night when it wasn't busy. I'm going to a different place tonight and hopefully won't be very busy either.

We add singers to our rotation as they turn in their slips. First come ... first to sing. First round is usually slowest .... around 10 -12 singers. From then on ... our rounds are usually about 20-35 singers long. Each sings is in the same spot all night. First to turn in slips (always first in the round) ... 23 rd to turn in slip (always 23rd to sing in the round) ... unless someone ahead of them leaves. Then of course, they move up... but no one is ever bumped up or down. So.... at our show MadMike's taping stategy would work all night.

Funny polls you guys have
These are some of the most common rotation types in Finland
1. Fair rotation: First round everyone sings once. Next rounds the same order no matter when you bring in your slip. If there are new singers they are added as something between five in a row and every fifth depending on the relation between the amount of old and new singers.
2. Fair rotation, (loyals first): First round everyone sings once. Next rounds the old singers come first and the new ones are put in the end. No new singers are accepted during the last hour.
3. Notebook rotation: The names of the singers are written in a notebook and that's the order. First registered get first served, but the registering itself can be done just once a round. Sometimes more than one song in a row are allowed for each singer.
4. Club rotation: KJ dictates the rotation. He chooses songs based on the atmosphere, for example a few fast songs in a row and during the last hour, just fast songs!
There are also some bars and clubs that require you buy a drink before you can sing. In most places singing is completely free, but tipping the KJ is always appreciated (even though quite rare!).

This is how rotation works in Malaysia.
All tables are numbered. Thus, a club with 20 tables will have a max. rotation of 20. The bar is normaly divided into 2- 6 'tables' for the porpuse of the rotation depending on the length of the bar.
It does not matter when you come in what matter is where you sit. so if the person singing currently is on table 5 and you walk in and sit on T 7 and hand in your song slip then your waiting time is only one singer,ie T6. Now if you sit on T1 to T4 then you will have to wait for a long time.
The rotation starts from the table who sent the first request slip.
Only one singer is to sing per table per rotation. And one table normaly sitted 4 person.
In most place people sing from the table NOT from a stage.

I stopped going there.jee wrote: There are also some bars and clubs that require you buy a drink before you can sing. I was at my favorite club and I kept putting dollars in the tip jar and the KJ told me I was the only one tipping all night!
