I just saw a KJ using the Cavs hard drive player. I was very impressed, but I thought this is too good to be true. Any feedback from users on reliability and performance?

I invested in a CAVS 1099 last year (it was all the talk in this area at the time) and I love it! It comes with a remote (cause it's so much work to reach over to put in numbers!), holds up to 20,000 CDG songs, and came preinstalled with 10,300 songs with only 50 dups.
However, I am getting ready to add new songs for the first time (took a while, but it's finally gonna happen), and haven't seen how easy or difficult it is going to be. I do know that with additional memory, we have actually thought about loading our regular dance tunes ( just a few 100 for parties and such) starting at the high numbered selections to eliminate what few discs we do use to none.

I'm computerized, and love it!
And for the CAVS hard drive unit, Top Hits Monthly releases their stuff in the CAVS format... just put the disc in and copy over!
THM also puts out stuff in the WINCDG format (mp3g), as well as cdg!

Thanks for the tip, Knight (are u in shining armor?)
I'm finding that it is more costly to add selected songs than I expected. In addition to the new releases, I have quite a few requests from singers. When compiling a custom CDG, I almost choked at the $5 a song price. I know there has to be someplace I can just buy one song at a time as requested, because other KJs in the area do it. I just don't know where they get them. All the sites I've found require a 10 song minimum for custom CDGs.
Anyone have any suggestions?

$5 a piece for some songs isn't asking too much. As opposed to buying a spotlight or full disc, with ONE or maybe two songs you really want, and you get 13 songs of filler.
I've heard that some of the monthly discs do customs for $2.50 a song, but I've not seen that. Chances are, the kjs you know of are getting the tracks (single ones you mentioned) illegally.
I have 11 custom discs, and they were worth EVERY penny I paid for!

I can tell you that I like the download of individual songs. You can go to www.tricerasoft.com and look at the left side of your screen, there is a section called online karaoke or something to that effect. It is updated monthly and the songs cost $2 a piece. If you are looking to buy more than 5 I usually do it in increments of 5 cause the 6th song is free. Check it out.

Looks like it's even cheaper than it used to be. The songs are from Top Hits Monthly, and are cheaper even than on their site.
These are the same songs I get on the Six Pack CDGs (in wincdg format)... what that is is the four monthly lines (Pop, Rock, Country and HipHop), plus two random from their other lines (duet, flashback, platinum, platinum plus, 70s, 80s, etc)...
These run for $50... and are worth EVERY penny. I don't even put in the hiphop into my system!! and I absolutely LOVE the Platinum and Platinum Plus lines! Those are really good. (note, the vocals are NOT part of these discs lines! For me, that's perfectly acceptable!)
and yes, if you buy 5, you get the sixth one free! For those that need these monthly songs, or the rare collections from the artists or even others, it's well worth it. Check out their songbase!
Matt
