Hello everybody, I have just joined the forum and have a question.

I am currently using winamp with vesion 1.4 of the mp3g plugin. I t works great but the only thing is that it is a little bit slow moving to the next page of lyrics. I know there are a few settings which can be altered in the plugin but don't know which setting does what??

Can anybody help

Paul

which version of winamp are you using?

I run 2.8 with an older cdg plugin, and I don't have ANY problems with page advancing, etc. NEWER versions of winamp don't support the cdg plugins, and I've heard of problems that come up because of that!

Hi, it's the latest version of winamp , version 5 I think. It's not that bad but it's not quite fast enough in faster songs when you need the next lyrics up quick. I thought it might be because my graphics card isn't fast enough or something like that.

Think I've sussed it. It's cos I've got the screen resolution's set too high. I've just knocked it down to 16 bit 800 x 600 and it's perfect now

yeah, if your video card isn't set up right you can have this happen... but also, the higher versions of winamp do NOT accurately support the cdg plug-ins, nor the pacemaker plugin. It's possible that they'll continue to work with it, but be warned... they stopped supporting them at version 2.8!

Winamp 5 will use all the older style plugins from version 2.x.  When they came out with version 3 none of the existing plugins would work with the new release and they caught some flack for it.  I've used the CDG and pacemaker plugins extensively with Winamp 5 and have had no problems with it at all.

As for the video - remember that your standard TV set only offers about 400 lines of resolution.  Running the CDG output at anything higher than VGA (640x480 / 640x400) or so is a waste unless you're either using a computer monitor, a projector, or other device that supports higher resolutions.  Sometimes you can even make the picture look WORSE by running a higher resolution because of the conversion made to fit the higher resolution onto the lower resolution output.

Oh REALLY? From winamp's site, they flat out stated that they weren't going to offer cross support for earlier plug ins!

INTERESTING! Thanks Meister! I may upgrade to see if I see a difference on my home machine!

Direct from the WinAmp FAQ:

Will my Winamp 2 plug-ins and Winamp 3 components work in Winamp 5?
Winamp 5 currently only supports the Winamp 2 plug-ins.

Remember, when you look at the releases, Winamp 3 was more of a mistake they wish they had never released based on the lack of support of previous plug-ins, etc.  They even skipped a version number (4) because of this.  Remember Version 3 was only out for a short time before they dumped it.  Version 5 can even duplicate the previous cpu friendly skin meaning it looks just like Version 2.
