Most of the time I listen WITHOUT commenting. So if you have 10 comments on your sub make it 11 cos I was there.

Why are people still using dail up? I live in the most remote part of the world and am on dsl.

I'm really thrilled that folks here listen to what I submit as the backing is just my guitar and guitar-driven synth...but it takes me quite a bit of time and work to put a sub together..to get it right...hell...to be able to sing the entire song and not make a mistake. So I wind up playing a song a jillion times (that's more than a million) before I get it right. I've put out subs that I'm totally and completly sick of singing cause it takes so much effort...and YES YES YES I want a cookie!...but I am so proud of my creations.

So, after all that, I usually don't get more than ten comments..but for me...I'm just totally flattered that someone else likes what I'm doing. And when you get plenty of comments to your song it is mostly cause the song/singing is really good. To me good singing is usually the result of much effort.

I have favorite singers here and I will go for their subs first...

If you put little effort into a sub, chances are you won't get much response. I've seen some will "cut themselves down" in the intro....I mean..if you think what you are subbing is not that good...why sub it?

If you put plenty of effort and you get little or no comments, chances are the sub is just not that good. Working hard on a sub is no guarantee of responses...just means you haven't arrived yet.

OK...there's my 73 cents worth....

Russ

of late i havent been commenting much on peoples sub's, but that is not cause i don't have interest in them or their work...it's purely i am working very very hard myself on my own sub's to get myself prepared for hitting that big wide world of auditions and looking for bands.

ive always used the site before this time for a fun, passing time enjoying sharing and listening to others for fun......my priorities have changed slightly now, and hence why some of you are probably scratching your head thinking why the hell is missy so against critique yet is putting her subs for critique lately lol well for the main those songs i sub or have subbed for critique i may use for auditions, so of course i wanna hear what people think....method always in my madness...preparation.

so my apologies to everyone...the hours i would spend listening is now taken up getting myself prepared for the big wide world of show business lol thats a bit dramatic lmaoooo but i am looking now for a band...it's been a long time since ive been out performing and over that time have lost a little confidence in myself and what i can achieve...so that is my little way of making moves forward :-)

I do think for the main...it's peoples time constraints that are the major reason for lack of comments and commenting, as i said earlier please stick with it :-)

I find it interesting that people feel apologetic for not listening to most of the submissions. I don't find anything wrong with listening to a couple a day. attempting to listen to different people each day. prioritising after getting to know certain people, eliminating certain submitters; Given the current system that isn't really "critiquing friendly" leaving no comments if a submission isn't good, is also VERY understandable. Some can't handle the critique despite their claims of wanting a critique, They expect flowers. Others can handle abit of a critique, and some albeit VERY few, can handle the blatantly honest critique.

I feel bad about not being able to leave comments to those I like who submit quite abit (and there are so many now). Given time constraints of the listeners schedule do you realize how much time it would take to listen to ALL the submissions, and participate in the forums ? Probably 3/4 of your day.

The submitter has to give me a reason to want to listen. They have to in essence sell something to me. Sometimes the song they submit itself is "self-selling", yet that only will work as long as the submitting person seems like a "warm" person. Even so, there ARE NOT enough hours in a day for ANYONE to listen to ALL the subs, all the time.

i think perhaps people feel apologectic for not listening and commenting steven purely for the fact when they arrived themselves, they did have to walk that extra mile and listen and comment as much as possible on peoples songs to get recognition back...so then if they stop all of a sudden or cut right down...like myself for instance....then you do feel a hint of guilt, especially knowing the time and effort they take over subbing :-)

Yes, being friendly and open has a HUGE part to do with it. Although the large number of comments I get indicate that you guys like my subs, I've also always made it a point to try to listen to everyone, or at least to as many as possible, and thus have established many friendships and acquaintances. It's definitely a give and take situation.

I agree with everyone's commensts, basically!! I can't believe the number of "listens" I get sometimes ~~ but ~~ I attribute it to the fact that I TRY to do @ 8-15 listens a day ~~ and ALWAYS reply to every comment left, NO exceptions. I even check my PROFILE daily ... and often find "new" next to older subs ... that someone has "found" in their "travels".

I try to listen to a little of everything ... but do find I am first drawn to a certain "group" of singers .... those being folks in the forums that I "chat" with daily ... and then those that I have gotten to know basically thru mutual "listens & comments" on a routine basis.

But.... I will admit ~~ If I listen to someone three times ~~ leave a comment each time ~~ and don't get at least a thank you or an "occasional return listen" ~~ I pretty much place that "subber" at the bottom of my listen pile. Doesn't mean I "WON'T" listen to them ... but I don't feel "compelled" to listen to them on a "busy" day.

I agree with Luly, above ~~ letting people know you listen inevitably will result in a few more "loyal" listeners to your subs ~~ and eventually that adds up to a good number of comments on your subs.

I try to listen to as many as I can as well, but that amounts to only a few a day, there are a few folks that I look for, Luly, FinnPeter, Tony Tiber, Headstogether, etc, etc, these guarantee me a good listen 99% of the time.

When I look for new subs to listen to, here is what I do.

 First if someone new has responded to one of my subs, then I seek out one of theirs as a kind gesture in return. I will always leave a comment unless the sub is so bad that anything I might say will make them mad or sad. Otherwise I will put something down and try to be as honest as I can. If someone is really wanting a critique, then I will do so, but mixing good with bad etc.

 Second, I will look for those people I know and listen where I can.

 Third, I will scan the titles and see if there is a song that catches my attention.

 Forth: unless a song or singer really catches my attention, I don’t listen to the song all the way through most of the time, I will listen to the first set of stanzas and then the bridge and that gives me enough info to critique a song or to figure out if I want to listen to the rest of it.

I am quick to respond back to ANYONE that is kind enough to leave a comment on my sub, even if it is very critical.

I know not all people can sing and some so this for the hell of it, just to have fun and that’s ok.

I remember when I found this place and thought COOL!!! It took a while to realize that there are cliques, there ALWAYS will be no matter where you go or what you do. It has been that way since the beginning of time and will stay that way until then end, it is human nature, deal with it :)
Then I realized if I want someone to listen to me, I need to listen to him or her FIRST.

Hope this helps.

I don't get alot of reviews, but it doesn't make me feel bad. I rather get no reviews then ten telling me that i suck. But once in awhile it would be nice to get a few more reviews then average. But i know people are busy, so i don't fret over it much.

Hi All,

I don't think I get "discouraged" by a lack of interest in my songs, but I do notice when a song that I do get less than an average number...

BUT in fairness, I started straight off when I found this site, by trying to comment on as many people's subs as I could possibly manage, as I feel its just like in real life... You HAVE to make the effort to put yourself out there and make yourself known...

Since then LUCKILY, people have been interested in my subs, and I get pretty good numbers, so in the reverse of the question... That ENCOURAGES me....

Does that count? lol

Brett

Hi Lady Di here (we can drop the LADY, I feel I am amongst friends now !). I have been a member for 1 month today (Happy Birthday to me) and I try to get on and listen to as many songs as I can, it's usually an hour here and another there. But I just love listening to people who share my passion for singing. When I first joined I would go for the songs I recognise first, then interesting user names (cos' when you don't know anyone thats all ya have to go on !).

If people are kind enough to listen to my subs. I will reply as soon as I can. I kinda think if people take the time to listen, the least you can do is reply and also if you want to be critiqued, you need to see peoples comments so you can go away and improve (or not) as the case may be !

Over the month you like some peoples subs. more than others not to say 'others' are bad, just personal choice, so I tend to go to those first, but I do like to listen to new people too. It is human nature I guess to warm to some people more than others, but my experience here so far is great, I just love it. SS is going to have to start an group which starts with "HELLO MY NAME IS LADY DI AND I'M AN SS ADDICT".........

:D

I probably post more songs than anyone on here and I do so because I am a singing junkie.... I have been all my life...  I love when people come to not only listen but to comment because that to me is like written applause and after all, all entertainers live for applause... Now comment count in some cases are not because the songs are that good or well performed but becasuse those individuals do a dilligence of going around and listening and commenting on others songs. I as many of my peers, because of time constraints, can not listen to all,but are selective in listening to our favorites first and then time permitting listening to new artists. I try to listen to at least one new artist a day. A large comment count will not make you a better singer but it shows a certain amount of appreciation for the person... I believe we all get a certain amount of fluff and that's ok because the idea is to show people, if you are commenting, you appreciate their effort and feelings they put into the song..... I take pleasure in the songs of all the people I listen to and I admire and respect them for putting their work forward... I am not big on the critique thing because I don't believe in it...  I believe everyone brings  something to the party and I want to taste as much as I can... For the dishes I like I tend to go back for more.. I just leave the others for those who have the taste for those dishes.... Don't mean they are bad, just not my taste...... In conclusion I will continue to sing my heart out for you and if you comment I will appreciate it as if I were bowing to the audiance and if you don't you have my thanks for just coming to listen...

I don't think I'd be discouraged but I might feel weird if nobody viewed my subs. I personally often jump over songs that I don't know, at least while I'm still quite new to this place. In the future, I'm sure that I'll start to go through as much material as I have time for.

If you want to do a research about this, my tip is that you sub a very well known song and then see how many views and comments it gets!

Interesting topic.  I work a ton of hours on my job, save for monday and tuesday when I have off, but I'm then working on my recording job recording either my own stuff or stuff from other bands in my studio.  When I don't have a hectic schedule on a monday or tuesday, I can be inclined to take in hours and hours of music off the site and try to leave as many comments as possible.  But I never worry about the comments I don't get....it's the ones that I do get that I appreciate, if that makes any sense at all :)
