Hi: I just registered on thie forum and spent 3 hours listening to Singers Showcase last night. It was BIG FUN!!
Can I bring my own CDG (not home-made, purchased) to a karaoke club and ask the KJ to use it? Thanks!

Firstly Radar-Queen , Welcome to the forum. Have fun, And enjoy.
As per your question: Absolutely YES, A kj will have no problem playing your original purchased disc, Unless they are a total moron, BJC

Wow Matt, Original discs? Thats nuts.
I've even gone so far as playing some burns where I personally know the owner of the burn has the original like Flip and Mr.Q.
BTW, You look mighty fine in front of Old Glory.

All of our places around here will play any cd you bring in. Doesn't matter if it is burned or original. I have never been anywhere that wouldn't.

Any KJ that won't play any customer discs, even purchased ones, is a KJ that's probably been victimized by an unscrupulous customer.
I've had one instance of a customer bringing in a disc and then coming up later and claiming that I damaged it
I could very easily see how a KJ would stop playing customer discs.
However, now I look carefully at any customer disc with the customer standing there and if it is damaged I point it out to them BEFORE it goes in my machine.
Once bitten twice shy baby!

I have yet to find a kj that wouldn't play a customers disc - even burns. Now I have HEARD that some don't, & then I know one that plans on going computerized & doesn't PLAN on playing customer discs at all. His new philosophy is that if his show is so great, that if he don't have a particular song you want, you can either find a song out of his book or hit the door, he doesn't really need you there anyway.

Yeah he insists that his show is so poular that they are turning people away at the door nightly because of capacity laws, so if you are going to whine about a song (or him not playing YOUR disc), go ahead & take off because there are plenty more waiting to get in that will gladly take your seat.

Personally, I think that philosophy sucks. I have NEVER gone to a karaoke place and found every song I've considered singing that evening. NEVER. Not to mention the fact that the place you go may very well have the song you are looking for, but the version they have might be the sad, polyphonic cell phone ring tone quality and you wouldn't want to sing it anyway.
If I go someplace new, I always ask the KJ if it's OK to bring burnt discs. If it's cool, I usually take mine with me because I am familiar with my versions and feel comfortable with them. I've only been to one place locally that wouldn't allow burnt discs... they claimed it was the ASCAP thing. Whatever. I don't go back there.
