Phill, The Radio Shack Color computer TRS-80 16K days. Basic, and extended basic, with ROM cartridges, and modems that I think weren't even 1200. As I recall my first (was it duplex, or half duplex) modem was 320 baud. this was 1982. The monitor was a TV set linked with a 75 ohm switch. I have it on the same shelf as my Anscovision 8 mm reel to reel movie projector, and my VCR with the remote that connects with a cord. oh, and Pong...

Some useless information. Your system (Windows) has been setup with the following default prefix's.
ftp: ftp://
www: http://
home: http://
gopher: gopher://
and mosaic: http://
so........if you type in google.com in the address bar, it will check for all of the above mentioned.

you know that, I know that, the wall knows that but not all people can figure that out and it confuses them when the WWW part is not in the link plus I drop the WWW when posting here cuz I am not always sure what the filters and admin will censor automatically...

Tammy, your wireless has to hook up to something. The wireless portion is from your laptop/desktop to the wireless router. Where does the router get the connection from?
I dont have a wireless Router.
This is Wireless internet.
We have an antenna (not a satalite dish).
The antenna is on the garage...it is line of site
with the server.
Its a new thing they just started out our way.
The antenna costs just over 1,000 dollars.

Don't most of us that have communications software, and programs such as Norton Systemworks, also have diagnostic software that does an analysis of connection speed ? Seems that there are many programs that do this as well as the program Tig mentioned. I'm sure there are loads of shareware programs that will do this as well.

Who has less than DSL anymore? And would it even be possible to browse these forums with less? I don't think so. LMAO I have cable capacity 1Mb/500kb (in/out) at the moment but am thinking of upgrading to 4Mb/500kb during the following weeks. The price would rise from about $33 to $55 a month. Not bad considering!
Current values:
Communications: 650.4 kilobits per second
Storage: 79.4 kilobytes per second
1MB file download: 12.9 seconds
Subjective rating: Not bad

As I understand it, your wireless still has to have some sort of connection, such as DSL. My pc is connected to the DSL modem with a wire, but my laptop and the other PC are connected wirelessly. Wireless is actually a bit slower than a regular line, I was told, anyway...
