This could be a vey interesting topic .. I would like to get a general input on why singers bought their own systems for home use. What turned them off in the bars and what would attract them back...And would like a general census on the singers that sing at bars and why and the percentage of singing at home and at bars. Let us know what you want...Would you like an alcohol free environment? Let us know people so we can provide it ...

The advantages of a home system: you can sing as much as you want; nobody is listening except you so you can experiment without fear of embarrassment; you don't have to listen to a bunch of drunks while you're waiting; safe environment.

Disadvantages: no audience (assuming you want one); difficult to get all the songs you want; can't hear other good singers while you're waiting; no acclaim if you sing really well; can't meet other people sitting in front of your TV.

Solution: go out to karaoke once a week; sing at home the rest of the time.

We have karaoke at home because of a huge Halloween costume party each year. It is a huge hit. other than that time of the year we don't use it. We have started to use it a little more often like for my nieces birthday party. We are just not the type family that goes out much.

I have a system at home that I use for practice, and I am the only one who uses it. I have plenty of songs to choose from that I might consider singing in public, so I try them out at home first to get an idea of how it would go over at a bar.

I also sing at bars/clubs. Sometimes I will take my own music, but most of the time I just use what's provided by the KJs. I don't need alcohol to sing, either at home or in a bar... although I used to until I got over my nerves.

I think what would be interesting is to have a non-smoking karaoke bar open up some place. I would certainly go there, and know many others who would as well. It's so much nicer as a non-smoker not to have to breath in second hand smoke and have it affect you while singing. But I would still go to smoking bars as well.

I am with you guys, non-smoking would be just awsome. I have never touched alcohol (I just never liked the taste of anything !), and other people drinking, doesn't bother me, as long as they don't get obnoxious and try and snatch the mic from me (I've seen this happen on occasion). I have a professional set-up at home, decent Peavey speakers, stands, mixer, cordless mic and about 210 CDG's. I just love to sing, it has always been a passion of mine. Some people watch DVD's or listen to music, I just prefer to sing. It's nice being able to try new songs out before you hit the bars. And when it gets to -45C here in Calgary, home is good !!!!!

Lady Di :)

the only home karaoke that goes on around here is for my kids. they have a blast doing karaoke here on the computer :-) there's something i like about going out to sing though. yea the smoke gets to me after a while and the rowdy crowds can get annoying lol but isn't that what makes it fun? I mean that's what i go out to sing karaoke for... the fun. :D
