The Canadian Blood Service has an unrelated bone marrow registry which are looking for volunteer donors. These donors are used if they match a recepiant. You may never be called, but then again maybe you will. Yes I am a volunteer on the registry for over 10 years. I am sure there are similar registries in other countries.

Your mother sounds like an exceptional woman. I'd like to think that I'd do the same thing if it were someone in my family. You are obviously very proud of her, and rightly so.
