Hey there Phill,

This might be an off the wall idea and I don't know PHP well enough to know if it's even doable but........

I think it'd be really cool if there'd be some way that we could select a certain # of songs to kind of "que" up so that they'd stream right after another instead of having to listen to one and then go back and select another one to listen to etc....

I guess my scenario is that I'd like to listen to some of these great subs while I'm working on stuff and it's kind of disruptive to have to come back to the page between every song and find another one to listen to. I'd like to be able to select say, 10 songs, and then hit play and they'd play one after the other....

I'm sure this would probably be a huge undertaking to say the least but just wondering if it was even remotely a possiblity for future consideration?

From the other karaoke sites I've seen it looks like that feature would definitely make this one stand out. I saw someone else post that they listen while doing dishes, etc... it just make it easier to listen...

OK... done ramblin now.... Sorry if it was a dumb idea...

Keep up the good work!

Yes Foxe , That would be a great idea if Phill can do it. I have posted another reply on my last request, via our deleted songs, but maybe Phill hasn't seen it, so I 'll post it here again below, if that's ok.

Hi Phill,

I just thought a little more about this Deleted File List, what about a menu from A to Z and I click on F for all the members nic's that begin with F like mine , find FinnPeter click on my name and there are all my deleted songs in alfabetical order with the date I deleted them.

I could also click on any other members name to see what songs they have deleted from the same A to Z menu and get an idea what song next to sub or even ask a member to resub an old song that you see that you like etc.

In this way it would be more easier to program than make a list for every member with password and private view only.

Cheers,

Peter

That is a great idea. Creating a SS jukebox of sorts. Perhaps a folder with the capacity to store, and save songs in, and like CD creator software, the ability for continuous playback.

Wow, just pile it up why don't ya...

j/k

I'll investigate both of these. I do know that it would require me to hire an expert for the que-up idea... Beyond my skills, but I will look into it.

I would say DON'T hire the expert... this is merely an option someone's asking for. I can take "sorry, but the expense won't justify this action"...

Matt -

I wasn't really "asking" for anything....

I was just making a suggestion to help improve the site's offerings which would help more people want to come here and/or STAY here btw since there are plenty leavin like flies and I know of a lot more plannin to leave.

Sorry - but my job is marketing so I'm always lookin for ways to keep customers and gain new ones.....

I'm sure that PHiLL is perfectly capable of deciding if the expense justifies the results and so we'll leave it in his hands.

Roxey,

asking and suggesting are the same thing.

I'm all for tweaking the site, but as a website developer myself, I also know that you have to work within your own boundaries. If Phill has to outsource this request, it'll be an extra expense...

My SUGGESTION was to not do it. Sorry if I offended you or caused a problem.

My job is customer service, and we have to work within our means to keep the customer's happy.

does expense really become an issue...some people pay membership and surely that's what its for to go towards the upkeep and improvement of the site. i am quite shocked phil actually doing it all on his own.

Matt,
I'm not offended - I hate computers - it's hard to show you if I'm crabby or not. I was just clarifying what my intent was.

I do beg to differ that asking for something and suggesting something are the same things. They are not, at least Merriam-Webster doesn't seem to think so

Suggest: to propose as desirable or fitting

Ask: to make a request of

I'm a Network Admin, an Internet Admin, Website Designer, and Marketing Manager (my actual job is the MM one but have had the other 3 dumped on me for the last 8 years as well) so I do know a little something about the fact of hiring experts adding to costs.

I work with a board of directors and am extremely cost conscience, have to be. I also am well aware of outsourcing web design stuff and its costs, that's why I got handed the magic wand and told "Poof -- you learn it and do it for same pay as what you get now" LOL.

Like I mentioned, part of my suggesting such a thing is that there are many people leaving the site, along with some that are planning to leave when their paid membership is up. Plus there are always some people looking for bigger and better.

Sometimes it does take money to offer new services but the investment can lead to more recurring revenues instead of loss of revenues.

If a site stays stagnant and takes the approach of "it aint broke so I'm not going to fix it", it might not have much of a future.

If some other site invests money and actually introduces new things, instead of just fixing things that are broke, then who is probably going to end up with the more paying customers?

Probably the new site -- because in reality --- would you rather drive a horse and buggy or a motorized car? Same concept...

It's actually a good sign when a site like this becomes so popular that it requires more than one person on staff to handle things. It means that they are growing and revenues *should* be growing as well.

I like to see sites grow and succeed, especially ones like this so if I have an idea of how the site can attract more people or keep its existing subscribers then I make a suggestion. I can't help it, it's ingrained in me because of the hours I spend doing my job and the type of person I am.

yes foxy i agree with you...i am one of them...on another note...matt made a point what he failed to notice that 3 other people thought your idea was good...in theory i also do :-)...but to be honest will take an awful lot more to get me subbing again, but thats just me and my touchyness.

Foxy i don't think you need to explain yourself, the webman who's the one in charge said he would look at costs etc so if it was a straight no i am sure he would have said so :-) in all fairness to phil he has tried his best to accomodate everyones needs.

Yes. I agree with you too Foxy.

The snittiness like Knight's comment has stopped me from enjoying this site.

There is no need for that kind of rudness.....especially when he is not the one doing the programming.

Foxy was merely suggesting something she would like to see....and I don't think was being demanding....

And, as for hiring an expert....I am sure that there are people out there that will offer their advice...or if they can or can't do it free of charge....and if you want to go through with the idea...charge you.

I know soundclick has that type of thing...where you can choose what songs you want from people's pages on soundclick, and then it compiles into a radio station. Others can then add your station to their favories, and all the MP3's stream in your computer's media player. When they delete their song, it simply gets deteled off your station.

So, I can't see why it can't be done here if it can elsewhere.

Thanks Missy & Roo.....

Apparently I rub some people on this site the wrong way.. and it will just take some learnin to know who they are...

Or I should just stick to my resolution to stay the heck out of the forums - LOL.

Needless to say there have been a few times this past month or so in here that I've felt like I have a huge KICK ME sign on my forehead when I post innocent messages and there have been some pretty willing people to oblige.

Oh well... life will go on... I just have to learn to control my wanting to help make the world a better place I think.

OK AllStar now I concede with you that having feelings can ruin your life.

Don't worry. I feel the exact same way as you. I have never been so unmotivated to sing in my whole life....or post....and when I finally do get a nice song...it feels like there is no where to go to share.....I just feel stress....and don't know why.

I will share with you :)

Matt,
It's not that you put your 2 cents in... it's how it comes across.

G'night... maybe tomorrow will be a better day for all of us.

ok now... I consider both of you to be my friends, and I really do think that you're both misunderstanding eachother...

Roxy, I do think your comments were completely innocent, and I think your idea was a great one. It would be very difficult tho, I'm sure.
I also think Matt's were innocent too.

I think in his response to your idea he was just tryin' to say that it's still a great site if the changes can't be made. I don't think he's sayin that your idea is a BAD idea... he just knows it's an extra weight for Phill to carry that may not be necessary... ya know... givin' Phill a little support to say "not to worry... your site is still fantastic even if ya can't make such a big change" I really don't think he meant to take a stab at you, hun :)

can we hug and make up? puwease?

QUOTE FROM PHIL

"I'll investigate both of these. I do know that it would require me to hire an expert for the que-up idea... Beyond my skills, but I will look into it."

QUOTE FROM KNIGHTSHOW

"I would say DON'T hire the expert... this is merely an option someone's asking for. I can take "sorry, but the expense won't justify this action"... "

Fine. Maybe "snitty" was a bad word.

However, I don't think you should have said what you said and how you said it. A simple...."geez....that sounds expensive hiring an expert....I do some programming....I know it can be tough...but I hope it works out." Was there any need to be that mean????

Phil was merely saying that he would look into it with an expert. Nowhere did he mention that it would be expensive but he would look into it. Nowhere did he say "Yes, I am going to do this....even though it is expensive" Until he mentions that it would be too expensive...or too hard...there is no need to say such anything at all in the first place.

Also, just because it is someones opinion does not mean it is a bad idea. I like the idea. I like to listen at work. It is a PAIN in the butt to have to constantly switch between screens and what I am doing. I would love to have a mini jukebox of SS Singers. I may not sub or comment...but I do listen occasionally.

KNIGHTSHOW QUOTE:

"My job is customer service, and we have to work within our means to keep the customer's happy. "

Well by saying this, you are just contradicting your own statement. Phil has to do things too to keep customers happy....and if it is at an added expense, so be it. There have been a lot of changes that YOU wanted....and I am sure that took a lot of time away from his normal life to do as well.

All I am saying is that you were so quick to shoot down her idea.....and not even in a nice way....just some snitty "Oh, don't do it....it will cost too much".....and honestly, do you even know how much it would cost??? Maybe you should do some research before you decide to shoot someone's idea down. Maybe it may be easier than you think....like I said.....soundclick has it....where you can take songs from the person's song page and combine them all to make one radio station....(but of course, no one sees that idea...just the fact that I wrote "snitty" in my reply...)..so it obviously can't be too difficult....or it can be done...and may be difficult...who knows.....Which is why he said HE WOULD LOOK INTO IT....cause you know...sometimes it takes money to make money.

Just because you are a programmer, does not mean you know it all. I know lots of programmers too....and they don't know it all either.

Oh, and if you don't want to be labeled a "trouble maker" then sometimes it would be best to keep your comments to yourself. Most of the time...you do this to yourself...and then get upset when someone says you are "snitty". As far as I am concerned, it was a very rude remark....and there was no need for it at all. "If you have nothing nice to say...don't say it at all"....
