OK, I'll admit it, that Millie Vanilli song got to me because of situtations around that time.
"It's a tragedy to think our love is over, yet I never will forget the day we met, still I'm gonna miss you"
(talkst amonst yawselves, I'm getting Vaklempted)
and after seeing the 10th HS reunion episode of some movie years back, with the lonely ex-football player sitting in the stands reminiscing, and JT's song "You can close your eyes" came on to close the move. That too

I'll have to ask the folks if Somewhere over the Rainbow was one of the biggest tear-jerkers in their day.
In the old days, "To sir with love"

How about the theme from "ghost" (blanking here) ..... Not sure if it was the song or the movie... but gosh.... I go thru a box of tissues when I hear that one ('specially when watching the movie) ...

Ooooohhhh, man I like this topic. I see most of my favorites have been named. My absolute #1 tear jerker that makes me bawl like a baby is
He Stopped Loving Her Today- George Jones
And 2nd
Go Rest HIgh On That Mountain- Vince Gill (I think others sang it with him)
For those who don't know it, it was a tribute to Kieth Whitley after he passed away
And 3rd
Don't Cry Daddy- the version with Lisa Marie singing with Elvis
I could fill the page though, I have alot of these.....

OMG- what a compliment. I don't AGREE with you, but thank you just the same. I am actually a fan of hers. I think she has tons of potential, she just needs to get it all figured out. (and sing in a higher key IMO)
My niece wanted me to change my pic on here- so I did. I know I play with them alot, haha- but I'm just one of those people who really are never satisfied with a pic of myself, so I keep changing them. I think I'll quit now.

Same here on that one...
Some more that get me are:
Three Wooden Crosses - I don't remember the artist offhand
Streets of Heaven
So Far Way - Carole King
Grandpa
A few I sing that has had some people choked up are:
Riding with Private Malone
Love, me
Many folk songs can do it as well but we really don't have enough time!

I absolutely LOVE to sing that song! However, I've never sang it early enough in the evening for it to count as anything more than a "sappy" song. No one ever pays attention past 12:3o for those. But, at least I tried it... ONCE.

Debauchery,
I basically love the whole "tapestry" ?album?... from "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" to "Smackwater Jack', etc, etc, etc,
"So Far Away" is especially poignant due to family and my best friend.

Come to think of it, I like to sing A LOT of her stuff. I really appreciate the fact she's one of the songwriters who also SINGS her own songs besides just letting other artists record them for her.
I'd say for the most part, I tend to sing mostly early, mid 70's songs. I think I was born in the wrong era. I should have been a teenager in the 70's. I wanted to wear those huge bellbottoms and platform shoes and go to discos.

The song "MAYBE SHES AN ANGEL" always makes me sad,
also the song. "IF NOBODY BELIEVED IN YOU" makes me sad too....weep, cry, sadness....

Deb.... Im gonna sub a song from the Tapestry Album this weekend. CK is one of my musical heros. I'll leave which one as a surprise.

Oh wow! I can't wait to hear it. I've been contemplating subbing 'It's Too Late.' I sing that one a lot too. I'd say it's one of my favorites by her. There are times it makes me cry, and then other times when it just makes me feel good. Something about the lyrics! The music itself isn't melancholy, yet the lyrics are quite sad. Guess I can't really explain the way it affects me.

I just realized I recorded TWO from that album!! ~~ One is " Its Too Late".... so I'll sub the other one.. and YOU sub that one, K? I'd love to hear ya sing it!! Yeah.... depending on mood... that one can cause a tear. I guess anyone that's loved someone but just hasn't been able to make it work ~~ and had to give up a love ... can relate to it.
I've looked and looked for the backing to "Tapestry" .. but can't find it on Karaoke anywhere .... I'd LOVE to sing that one.
Hugs ~~

I think I'll give that one a shot here one of these days
As for relating to the song... oh, yes, that I definitely do. There would be many times I would sing it and think about the words coming out of my mouth and how they were really summing up what was going on in my life at the time. Never said anything to anyone. Just thought it.

Mine is "Songbird" - the Eva Cassidy version...
I used to sing it to my bump when I was pregnant, and then used to sing it to my son to help him sleep...
He's 3 now, and I still can't sing it or even hear it without tearing up, cos it reminds me of the most precious thing in my life... my little boy... and how beautiful it was when he was born...

I'd hear that song.. and think "someone out there knows more about me than they should". It summed up so well what was happening in my life at that time, and I hadn't talked to anyone about it. Always brought a tear to my eye. If I Could.. by Barbra Streisand (Higher Ground CD) ... Does that to me! When I hear it.... I think of my son......and I choke up big time!!
