I have a recurring problem with what could be described as maybe post nasal drip? and I frequently have to clear my throat.
Is there anything I can do to temporarily stop this while I'm singing a song? My voice will sound clear and decent, then all of a sudden I'm stopping and clearing my throat which ruins the song. :(
Sometimes I can drink something that will briefly clear my throat, but I was wondering if there was a standard "trick of the trade" for this sort of thing.

Thanks for any help,
Chris

Hi Again, only Lady Di again !!!!

I find it depends on what I am drinking at the time I am due to sing. Certain drinks make me 'mucosey' (I haven't got a clue if this is speilt correctly !). I try and stick to water as much as possible, loads before I even leave for a gig or karaoke venue. Coffee with cream makes me totally 'drippy' and wanting to cough. Never believe anyone who tells you to drink water with lemon juice, lemon is acidic and strips your cords !!! Always drink your water plain without ice (advise given to me by my voacl coach, who happens to sing for a living) so I guess her advice is sound.

Anyway good luck !!

Keep sining

I have the exact same problem as you.

drives me crazy! Always the feeling of a big ol gukie thing right in the middle of your thorat!

Since I have started taking vocal lessons...this has actually stopped, or become less apparant to me.

My vocal coach said that it is caused by a few things....one is the glottle effect. I am not exactly sure how to explain it....you can look it up on google. All I know is because I do that...it irritates my thorat and makes me have nasal drip.

she also said that I probably get it because I talk too far back in my throat. She told me to concentrate on talking and keeping the sound forward....as if I was singing.

this has also helped me alot in my singing too. I don't feel so clogged now that I know how to place all my sounds forward.

I also bought some nasal stuff. it is called hydra sense. Now, this has worked for me, and may not work for anyone....and you should only follow a doctor's advice when it comes to anything....but it is a salt water type solution that you spray in your nose, and it helps kill bacteria in the nasal and throat passages.

I am not sure what else could be causing this....as everyone is different. Try googling "nasal drip" And see what you come up with!

Good luck! I know how you feel....and it is the worst feeling in the world!

You may want to talk to your doctor. It sounds like you may have rhinitis (sp), which causes you to be stuffed up ot post nasal drip. If it is then there is a nose spray you can use. But see your doctor and be sure.

I agree!

Doctor is always good.

That hydra sense I mentioned, it is also used to help rhinitis.

But, again, a doctor....and probaby a vocal coach...will help :)
