'tongue-tied'?? (i'm gonna do a Gilly here...) Wha?

whadda ya mean, wa?

Tongue-tie is when the membrane under the tongue (the frenulum) extends excessively toward the tip of tongue. His membrane was an intact piece of tissue attached to the floor of the mouth and extending down the length of the underside of the tongue.

Look in the mirror at the underside of your tongue. You'll see it! :P

Oh!! that thingie... lol Yeah, I guess that could cause a problem. I had never heard of it though, thanks for 'splaining that to me!

It seems like alot of the so called opera metal singers have lisps. And my old bass player had a bad stuttering problem but when he sang back up he wailed his (@$%&#!) off. Check out Bostons 1st album, Brad Delps voice which is ALMOST impossible to do has something funny going on too.

I think the guy who sang some of the AC/DC songs (like 'Thunderstruck')... I believe it was Bon Scott, had a really odd sounding voice. Almost like a duck or something. ;)

Most everyone produces the /s/ sound with some distortion. Primarily because... the tongue tip should come in approximation (touch) the ridge behind the lower front teeth as air is forced forward and out.

The tip of my tongue seems to kind of 'arch upwards' when I make an 's', so it's just behind my 'top' teeth. I've just discovered that my 's' is a little less 'whistley' when I turn my tongue 'down', behind my bottom teeth as you suggest in this post. Interesting stuff, I say. :D

Sounds very painful. Looks in mirror. Touches chin with tongue. Naaaaah - just kidding. We'll leave that trick to Kiss. jvj

Welll... anyone listened to Cyndi Lauper recently? She seems to have a REAL problem pronouncing her "R"'s in that song... sort of comes over more like "twue colours..." and "don't be afwaid to let them show..."

heheh yeah, I think she's always had sort of a 'brooklyn - baby talk' thing going on. :) But gotta LOVE her voice... (thought she was really cool in the movie 'Vibes' too).

You should listen to her song "She's so unusual." She does an almost straight on Betty Boop at the beginning.

Elvis Presley had a distinctive pronounciation of "S" and "SH".

When I sing Elvis songs I do not have to put on the phrasing as I have the same problem as Elvis.

Just wish I had his voice.

When I put up Day in Paradise my 's' thing went nuts when I said the word "whistle" in the second verse. In fact, it was so bad, it came out something like griswald. You might check it out and I am curious as to interpretations of the word it sounds the most like. Since I did other parts of the song okay, I didn't want to retrack it. I'll never be a perfect singer.
If I retrack a song to fix one thing I usually make another mistake somewhere else.

Currently, until my tooth is melded or whatever, I can bypass the s problem by singing my s's like z'z. Or else I can just live with it and expect my listeners to accept me as 's" challenged.

Of course, do remember, there is emotion, and feeling and so many more things which go to make a performance. So, we all are a little self conscious about whatever is imperfect in us and that keeps us from being totally conceited .......... That works for me.
