I'm so Lonesome I Could Cry - Elvis
He stopped Loving her today - George Jones
Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton
I'll Always Love you - Whitney Houston
Always on My Mind - Elvis

Always on My Mind - was written By Willie Nelson in 1960, But never really used by anyone untill 1970. Elvis used it a a trubute to Pricilla when she left. Then Finally Willie released a version of it a few years later.

Tears in Heaven - a classic Eric Clapton written about the death of his child.

I thought of another one.

"Monday morning church" by Alan Jackson........ and i can't STAND Alan Jackson, but this song jerks ma tears.... especially the video

and..... ok.. I admit it.... "One Sweet Day" by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men still gets me choked up a bit...

but NOTHING..... i mean NOTHING made me bawl so hard as this song.... literally.... I had streams of tears rolling down my face, and I was blubbering and the whole nine yards when I heard this. I could hardly sleep afterwards cuz I kept thinkin about this poor little girl: (many of you have allready heard this)

** Stream of thought ~~~~~~

OMG... I just thought of two more ....

If I Could.... from Barbra Streisand's Higher Ground CD.

I literally ball when I hear HER sing it.... I think its the "mom" in me. But... man.... talk about big 'ole tears runnin' down the face... Geeeeeesh!! My son asked me to sing at his graduation party.. and I wanted to do that one SOOO much.... but I didn't even attempt it.... 'cause I knew I'd lose it!! LOL

And....

The Worst That Could Happen ~~~ Brooklyn Bridge

An "oldie"... starts out ... "....Girl, I hear your getting married, hear your getting married, this time your really sure...."

Damn... crying already....

Think we should have "TEAR JERKERS" for a "theme of the week" category??? :bawling:

Observation: As I read through all of your entries... I noticed an abundance of songs from the "country" genre. Any ideas why?

It's true, for a style that adhere's to a somewhat simplistic musical format, country has profoundly sad lyrics. It can be tough to listen to for long durations for that reason IMHO. Yet some of the stuff that's meant to be very sad is pretty tacky ;/

"If I die before I awake feed Jake, he's been a good dog"

or "fly fishing"

I've never heard them on karaoke, but "Tomorrow Wendy", and "Joey" by Concrete Blonde are towards the top of my sad song list.

I guess I've never listened to the words of "Honey" very closely, because that never struck me as a sad song.

Whenever I hear it at karaoke, "Love Shack" usually brings a tear to my eye, but not because the song is sad.

One More Day - Diamond Rio (I think) is also and amazing song.... I heard that played at a funeral once..... woa......

That song was played at my aunt's funeral. Her only daughter performed the song in SIGN LANGUAGE while the music played in the background. I can't even listen to the very first few notes without my eyes misting over, then I gotta change it. Can't take it. Reminds me of too much. :bawling:

Others that make me cry everytime:

The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face - Celine Dion
To Where You Are - Josh Groban (another funeral song)
Fields of Gold - Eva Cassidy
'Yellow', 'Shiver' and 'See You Soon' - Coldplay
Colour of My Love - Celine Dion
Wild Horses - The Sundays
Crucify - Tori Amos
You'll Think of Me - Keith Urban
She Is His Only Need - Wynonna
Forget About It - Alison Krauss
Sleepwalk - Santo & Johnny (from 'La Bamba')
Best I Ever Had - Vertical Horizon
Sara Smile - Hall & Oates
A Day In the Life - The Beatles
The Weakness In Me - Joan Armatrading
Anytime - Brian McKnight
Babylon - David Gray
Sorry Seems To Be the Hardest Word - Elton John
Sunshine On My Shoulders - John Denver (Grandma's song)
Penny Lover - Lionel Richie (don't ask, I don't know why it gets me)
Separate Lives - Phil Collins and uh... some chick
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
Waiting In Vain - Annie Lennox
In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel
Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) - Journey

and that's just a few of them. Yes, like Jazzy, I too am a huge sap for emotional music. There are some of those listed that get me and I still don't know why. Probably because they remind me of things that happened way back when.

Another one is from Tim McGraw - Grown Men Don't Cry. Good Lord man the third versus:

Then it's up the stairs and off to bed and my little girl says
"I haven't had my story yet."

And everything weighin' on my mind disappears just like that
When she lifts her head off her pillow and says,
"I Love You Dad"

I love my little girl...good Lord I started crying just typing that in...

Yes, both of those songs from Concrete Blonde are pretty emotional. There are a number of other songs from them that are like that as well.

As for songs that can make me cry at karaoke:

Love Shack
Summer Love
Paradise by the dashboard light
Picture
There are a couple others but I usually cry when I hear these but as mentioned, not for the emotional content. It's usually from the intense pain caused to my body through my ears.

As for touching songs that can get to me:
Cat's In The Cradle
Something to Believe in
Don't take the girl

Most of the freedom songs (CSN's Find the cost of Freedom is REAL short thank God...) really get to me. I served in the Army during the first time we went to Iraq (I didn't go to Iraq but I know what it's like to lose a friend).

One of my favorite poems? Charge of the Light Brigade.... the senseless loss of life caused by war and politics never ceases to amaze me.

Strawberry Wine........ Makes me cry and cringe everytime someone sings it. I think it is the most used song by ladies who have absouletly no voice.

Hrmmmm....

Songs that make me cry always go back to some highly emotional time in my life....generally at least...

Songs that are guaranteed to make me bawl...

I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing - Aerosmith

My Heart Will Go On - Celine Dion

Fly - Celine Dion

Those are all songs that were played at my husbands funeral....can't hear them now without losing it entirely...

I Believe - Diamond Rio

Greatest Man I Never Knew - Reba McEntire

You Raise Me Up - Josh Groban **Shivers**

Wind Beneath My Wings - Bette Midler

Please Remember Me - Tim McGraw

These are just incredible songs to me...full of such raw emotion...I bawl like a baby!

Nicole

Currently....

My Immortal - Evanesence
You Were Meant For Me - Jewel
Foolish Games - Jewel

(and ever since I was a little kid)
Sunshine On My Shoulders - John Denver :p

My younger sister can't sing 'Wide Open Spaces', cause she says it reminds her of me (I left 'home' for CA nearly a decade ago, and just returned for the first time a few months ago). Awwwww :(

More importantly... does anyone have tips for DEALING WITH songs that 'make you cry' if you have to perform? lol Ever notice how horrible ya voice sounds if you're getting choked up??

I don't want to start an additional thread for this. Yet I just figured I'd interject Simon & Garfunkle's soundtrack to "The Graduate" as the most sensuous music of all time (IMHO) Really full of emotion. I thought of this duo, because they do some pretty darn depressing songs as well, Richard Corey, I am a Rock.

I'm glad someone noticed my little post Syberchick. Quite honestly, I found it to be hilarious myself 8)

I forgot about the Beatles. She's leaving home, Long Long Long.
Claptons "Motherless children" isn't a sad musical format, yet the lyrics are rediculously sad. Chapins WOLD, Cat's in the Cradle.... All about "Has beens". People's lives have passed them by. Very sad. Superstar, the Carpenters actually got my eyes watering a few times.
