I was watching the news and as usual the news was all bad. I started to remember how things were years ago when I was a kid growing up so I sat down and wrote this poem....
What is your oponion of the times
When Planes Had Propellers
When planes had propellers the world would move slow
We took time to get where we wanted to go
When planes had propellers we didn't move fast
We just took our time and examined our past
When a call cost a nickel the world was just fine
A live person would come on and say" please hold the
line"
When calls cost a nickel we had plenty of time
And finally phone calls went up to a dime
When taxi cabs cost only ten cents a mile
And lipstick looked good on a young ladies smile
When nylons had seams and shoes open toes
And everyone wore each others close
When twenty five cents got you into a show
A train token took you where ever you go
When fruits that you liked came out only in season
And you didn't have turkey without any reason
When Santa would leave just one gift neath the tree
And I'd give one to you and you'd give one to me
When we all ate our dinner the same time each night
And everything dad said was true and was right
Then all at once the world moved very fast
There's only the future no time for the past
Everyone has a cell phone and fly on a jet
And everyones out for what they can get
Home cooking? Forget it who has time to cook
And how many people you know read a book
Men and women are equal or so they say
Unless you look at who gets greater pay
Now girls marry girls and guys marry guys
The airways are filled with nonsense and lies
No one has the time to sit and to chat
They have to get going and that just is that
When planes had propellers the world would move slow
We took time to get where we wanted to go
And as I look back it seems in so many ways
When planes had propellers they were much better days

Very nice Tony!
Man, not only can you sing, but you can write too
But, it all seems so true. Just does not seem like there is enough hours in the day anymore.....
Great poem HUGS

Tony, you sure hit the nail on the head. Terrific words and couldn't be more truthful.
I can't say I am surprised to read such a work of art from you. You are one very talented and creative person.
Hope you don't mind that I copy pasted it in my files, it's a "keeper"
Thank you for your very insightful poem!

As you know, I've been calling you the "Poetry Man" on my subs for a while now and you've just proven it even moreso. All the words building up inside you just spilled out in this lovely poem. You are a man of many talents, Tony.

on a related note... wanna hear something funny?
In my highschool.... there were SO many kids that would come to the office to use the courtesy phone just to blab about nuthin.
SO the teacher/office staff were getting annoyed and put a Rotary Dial phone on the desk...
barely ANYONE knew how to use the damn thing! how sad is THAT!?!

The only way you could know if the times were better were to have live through them. I also realize the older you get the better the years before were. Most of your family was around you, in some cases mom and dad had not passed away, was easier to get to gether on holidays as everyone lived close. Enjoy the times today for they will become tomorrows memories, and oh how sweet the rememberences.
