Hi,

I'm actually using KbKaraoke player to play karaokes on my computer using Win XP Pro.

I would like to change the key in which some songs are played, my voice can not always get to the key showned on screen.

I know that there's software that allows you to change the key so do you have names for that or links maybe.

Get winamp, the cdg plugin, and the pacemaker plugin. All Free and you'll bw able to change keys.

Do you know if WinAmp will allow me to play my files on a tv screen, i need to have that working on a tv screen, i'm playing karaokes in a friend's bar on friday nights and KbPlayer is a great tool for it.

The problme that i have is that sometimes the key is too high for some peoples and i need to get something else.

Even if it doesn't have a TV out supported as the second monitor, but does support a second VGA out (like many laptops) you can always use an adapter (about $70 at CompUSA). I keep an adapter like this in my gig bag and also one that allows composite video or S-Video in that will hook to a VGA monitor ($20 or so off ebay).

This way no matter what happens I can use almost anything as a display for my singer (including a 14" monitor most people would toss out) in a pinch.

Now i'm going to look funny but i don't have a laptop.

I carry my computer, screen, mouse and keyboard to do that on friday nights.

I know that it seems strange but for now that's the way it is. Maybe one of these days i'll have a laptop.

I tried the WinAmp thing and it's not really what i'm looking for. It is having some strange effects, not really changing keys but lowering down the sound making it look like talking with a potato in the mouth.

Maybe it's just me that doesn't know how to do it.....

Couple things to consider:

1. Laptops with decent power are still pretty cheap - in the $400 - $500 range. I can play the mp3's an even do a show on my Toshiba Libretto - a Pentium 233 w/ 64 MB of ram. It's not something I'd do every night, but it's possible with winamp.

2. If you're using a desktop look for a video card that supports 2 monitors or a card like the All-in-wonder cards that support TV out as either composite or S-Video. I picked up an add-on PCI card that handles the TV out on clearance at wal-mart (for a desktop) that cost me $15. Look for the deals - you might find some.

I've noticed a weird thing with winamp lately - specifically a problem with ASPI and the latest version on XP. Switch to Windows 2000 to cut down on some of the problems. Also watch the processor utilization and memory usage. If they max out the pacemaker plugin may garble the music pretty badly or cause it to do strange things.

My video card is a Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti4200 and it does the job. I set it to see on the TV screen what i see on my computer. It is fast and with the right settings in KbPlayer we can see perfectly the lyrics. I'm going through the bar sound system for the music and it's loud and impressive with songs like Metallica,Creed, Stevie Ray Vaughn which are in big demand where i am.

I know that carrying a full computer with a 19 inches screen is not the best and i do it every friday. The entire computer is working well but if another video card is needed i'll have a look at it.

I definitely need a laptop, it will save me from breaking my back from time to time.....

Another question while i'm here,

How about registering performances on my computer while they're singing....is there any special recommendation ?

If you're wanting to record the singing it's real easy but I'd probably use another computer to do that. Again, a very inexpensive laptop works wonders for this - I have a PII 400Mhz Gateway laptop and an IBM P233 I use for recording at home.

As for software I recommend Audigy because it's free and allows for exporting to mp3's.

A quick warning though, it's not legal to record someone singing and give a copy to them. W'e've discussed copyright and licensing ad naseum here already and you'd have to discuss new licensing with each manufacturer of disc that you have at an additional cost.

As for the video card I'd set the tv to only show the lyrics and not everything you see. This way you can que up the next couple singers while they're singing without them seeing what you're doing.

I see, so there could be problems if i'm taping someone....hum....better not to do it then.

With my video card, when the svideo cable is in, it gives me 3 choices and if i remember correctly i'm working with "clone" so which one of the three will work better....sorry i don't remember what are the other choices....well the setup is in Nvidia software and i have access to it only when the TV is plugged.

Probably something like split IIRC.

You'll want to extend the desktop to the tv and then set up your lyrics to run on the tv full screen while keeping the normal desktop and everything else on the main monitor.
