I am considering buying the CAVS 202G player, in part because the Nutech Digital Karaoke Party Pack Vol. 2 Super CD+G has a ton of songs I want in one package. However, research on this forum suggests that everyone hates NuTech. Being a newbie, that scares me.

Has anyone heard the SCDG? Even if not, are people's experiences with NuTech so bad that it's probable the SCDG will sound like garbage, have lyrical errors, etc.? Does the fact that this is a new release increase the odds I'll be happy with it?

Thanks for any help.

Before I drop a lot of cash on a compilation set from a company I tend to buy a disc or two or ask lots of questions about them first. I've even downloaded the MP3+CDG files from IRC and newsgroups to see if they are any good (since delete ALL of them) before I bought.

Here's what I found out... the 2 NuTech discs I've bought were so bad I didn't add them to my book. When I was downloading to compare tracks I had problems finding NuTech versions of the songs. When something is so bad it's not pirated it speaks pretty loudly.

Edit:BTW... in my findings the most pirated manufacturer is Sound Choice - hands down the pirates favorite, and with both Foundations and lots of other discs from them my favorite manufacturer as well (usually the best quality in the music I purchase). Bricks will be on order within a few weeks (woohoo! - time to gear up for the coming season!).

Meister. Can you explain where I can download samples of the NuTech disc in question? Can I use Kazaa or Morpheus? How bit Bit Torrent? Is this question verboten? I certainly don't care to pirate this stuff; I just don't want to invest in garbage.

Also, where can I buy the player and/or discs with the option to return them if I'm unsatisifed?

Well that's what you'd be doing pretty much if you went with the NuTech pack. Out of their entire cdg series, they have maybe 5-10 useable discs (& that's giving them credit) in the bunch - this of course was when they used to "borrow" other manufacturers music for their own but that was YEARS ago. The rest of the songs are off key, wrong lyrics, crappy music, bad swipes. The good thing about them is they are cheap - but that's about it. You could probably burn the money in your hand & enjoy it better.

Most of the online retailers offer a refund but I doubt most will let you return an open cd, cdg, super cdg, or dvd - just as MOST music stores. www.Karaoke.com has most of the Nutech library where you can listen to a 30 second sample clip. Listen to the songs from NuTech then look for the same song on say Pop Hits or Sound Choice & you'll see what we are talking about as far as the music quality.

The Nutechs have a lot of REALLY LOW sound levels in their recordings so you tend to have to really crank up the volume to hear them.

That's the whole point.... I couldn't find any pirated versions of NuTech's stuff which is why I bought 2 discs to 'try' them out...

I won't buy any more....

Trust me, if you just want some bang for the buck go with Sweet Georgia Brown discs 1-66. Not bad, not great, but ok and pretty cheap.

If you are willing to spend a little more, go with the Sound Choice Foundations 1 & 2 and the 5 Bricks. Between these sets you'll drop about $1000 but you'll have a thorough base to start from that you won't be replacing in 6 months.

If you are looking at SCDG specifically, you'll be FAR better off with Chartbuster E1-5 than any of the NuTech stuff.

If you are looking for 'party' type song check out Sound Choice's Party Pak 1 & 2. List at $200 each, but again, excellent quality. Lots of duplication between them, the Foundations and the Bricks so I'd normally go one way or the other.

As for downloading the songs, you'll find them anyplace you find other pirated music.

Still in a bind here.

I've now done some considerable searching, and the list of songs on that NuTech SCDG is more to my tastes than anything I can find anywhere else. I want mostly recentish alternative music and some oldies, with no country, and this disc has the perfect selection of those things. I'm willing to make some sacrifices to get the songs I want in one affordable package (I definitely can't spend $1000 assmebling these tunes piecemeal from better companies), but I can't stand to be singing over a casio synthesizer either.

Has anyone actually heard the disc or does anyone know for sure that all it is a compilation of Nutech's previous crappy offerings? Karaoke.com does not allow one to listen to this or other NuTech discs, that I could find.

I promise... I'll give up soon.

Yes it is a compilation from their existing library. Karaoke.com does allow you to listen to a 30 second clip. They may not be from the SCDG, but do an advanced search & just click NuTech in the manufacturer & they will all pop up. Once you get to the NuTech "disc" page, click on the disc or song selection & most of the songs have a little red speaker next to them, click that & it will pop up a new screen that will play the music.

give me 3 or 4 songs from nutech that are important to you and i will send you the audio track so you can listen to the music version... if you can live with their renditions then that should answer your question on whether to buy the ste or not... remember that whether we think a series of disks are crap or not doesn't really matter because you are the one that is going to sing off of them... it sounds as if the player and disk set fits your needs already but if you need confirmation on the sound of musical arrangement I can help ya out there... - tig

If you're using the disc for home use then only you have to be happy with the songs. Many of the people (including myself) here host shows and we need to have a quality product for the singers or they'll go somewhere else. Do any of us own any NuTech discs? Yes. Are they are 'favorite', 'preferred', or even 'regularly used' disc? Not likely because we ususally replace those tracks with better versions.

To put this in perspective, I don't hate NuTech, I'm just dissatisfied with the quality of what I've seen so far. I don't care for the DK Millenium disks either because they have a 'pan flute' sort of sound that tracks the vocals on the track. In a crowded club you'll never hear it, at home or early in the night it's very irritating. Does it mean I won't buy it, not necessarily, I might eventually if I feel I need to add those tracks to my book even if I feel the quality is slightly sub-par overall.

As tigrr27 said, you are the person that has to decide if it's good enough for you.

Yeah because all the videos had pretty much babes in skimpy little bikinis, no one paid attention to the quality  I mean Alan Jackson - Crazy 'Bout A Mercury had a gal rock climbing in a thong - not much to do about a Mercury, but nice to watch. As a matter a fact I think they were driving a Chevy Blazer or something.

It was the same music on the cdg's though, the swipes weren't all that rotten, just not very good.

I stumbled on something today as I was playing around that shocked me quite a bit (sometimes I'll just pick a disc I don't normally use and try to sing whatever comes up).

I have a NuTech VCD that's not half bad. About the same quality or marginally better than my SGB stuff which really shocked me. I never realized it was a Nu-Tech disc before because of the way it's labeled:

Pro-Hites Karaoke Vol. 7 - Today's Classic Rock and has a disc number of PVCD7.

The strange thing is what's written around the outside:
c1997 NTE, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Licensed by NTE, Inc. Exclusive Hong Kong & Macau Distribution by Panarama Entertainment, H.K.

Is this a foreign VCD done by NuTech that's not distributed in the states that I stumbled on? I bought it from a shop that does mostly Asian discs including Phillipine when I was first buying discs. I didn't realize it was NuTech until I saw the NuTech logo in the corner pop up on a couple songs. BTW, I originally bought it because it has 3-4 Pearl Jam songs on it that some people were asking for.

Anyone else find anything like this? And yes, it has half naked women in some of the videos....

I've always said they haave a handful of useable discs. Some were because they used to take the music from other companies. I don't have the VCD in question, but I have the laser equivalent #17 - or at least it sounds like it by the Pearl Jam songs described - and these versions are actually chosen more over the Radio Starz versions.
