OH YEAH!!!
I forgot all about Audacity! I tried that one once.... The very first one I tried so I was a little GREEN with the whole idea.... made me a bit nervous. By the time I started understanding the whole recording/mixing thing, I'd already gotten Mixcraft.
Thanks for the reminder. I'm gonna check that out again. (Plus, my father in-law uses that program.. he can help me with any problems)

Thanks Allstar

Crystal - I left this note in your latest sub - don't know if it helps to any clues or not:

Hey Crystal - don't know if this will help ya or not -- I'll post in the forum too - but I'm wearing headphones tonight to listen and your vocal was in the left side with echo in the right side UNTIL I turned OFF the bass boost on my headphones then you were in the middle.

The reason I thought of this is the other night I was listening to one of Matt's songs and it sounded like his vocals were under water & I couldn't for the life of me figure out why. I looked at my headset cord and right on the cord is a slider that does bass boost. Slid it the other way & viola - Matt sounded normal.

When I slide it to bass boost 'off' setting then your vocals sound normal but of course I loose a lot of the background vocals and the bass of the music. Slide it to the "on" setting and you're only in my left ear and lots of background singers in my right ear with nice sounding music with bass on both sides.

Maybe that will help????? Don't know -- sometimes little things help lead to clues I guess. Good Luck!

It'd be cool if you could compare settings to Tony Tiber's settings because on his "Always and Forever" I have the opposite effect. The music is only coming through on my left ear and not the right - the vocals are comin through on both sides --- WITH THE BASS BOOST ON --- on my headphones.

I turn the bass boost off and I get full sound of music in both sides of the headphones but zero vocals...

Weird huh?

But anyway maybe another clue in your mystery?

Crystal,

not sure this will help, but...

Panning of the vocal in my mind is a recording software issue...

I use Audition (and it is very easy to use). My mic only comes in on the left channel (I take direct out from the mixer into the left channel of the line in only). In Audition I tell it to record only the left channel into a mono track. This mono track can then be panned.

Your mic should only be recorded into one mono track. Somehow it sounds to me that your recording software considers it a stereo signal so even though you pan to center you get the vocal in one side and nothing in the other.

In Audition you see the tracks you have recorded. Is it the same with your software?? If it is you should be able to see whether it was recorded into a mono or stereo track.

BTW. a quick solution :) . To maximise sample rate and therefore sound quality you might consider subbing in mono or reduced stereo. This should allow you to sub in better quality.

Morten
