Some people probably just prefer to listen and go and not get involved with the ratings/critiquing crap, just like a real karaoke show. I haven't seen so many people who take something that is fun and ruin it by being little kids ("I'm better than him/her" "they're picking on me" "I deserve better than a 7,8,9,10 or whatever" ad nauseum). The times I go on I go to listen, not to become Simon Cromwell or whatever his name is.

Well...some may love it..I hope that it makes a difference in the recent trend of ..no one commenting anymore..or afraid to rate..or critique because of bad sports...this page...shows the inactivity of late..and its not just the holiday ...its been gettin worse and worse..not that it should be a page of 10s..it is set up to go as low a score as it needs to..just..there are no subs with 5 ranks..plus comments..to fit the formula..there are plenty with the option to critique i see...

Change is ok..we have to deal with it in life everywhere we go..but extremes...mite be more damaging..good luck Phill.. I really do see how hard you are working to make this site great..I just have a feeling that its not a majority issue..cuz so many who use the singers page..every day...dont post in the forum..or they are afraid of being attacked if they give their opinion..not that that would EVER happen here..

Your screen shot displays the "Weekly" Top Ranked Submissions.

Look at the "Monthly" - There are ranks from 3.5 to 10 (over 3 pages)

I am hoping that the new rank system will offer a better and more desireable results for all.

I know the point was..once upon a time there were so many it took just the first two pages of 50 for the tens...now..its 20 songs..for the whole week...

I have heard from some people that they had requested that their submissions be NOT RANKED however, the system didn't accept it.

For a limited time I am allowing you to go back and edit any submissions to be changed from ranked to not ranked.

I have made adjustments to the script so that this will be fixed from now on.

I think its a GREAT idea, but its gone a little screwy!

When I subbed my last song, I clicked "no" to rank/critique, but when the little indicators appeared on the site a few minutes later (dunno if that has anything to do with it) it had the "critique" symbol next to it!

Can you check it out pls??? And change it back???

That screenshot showed what probably *should* be... very few 'perfect 10s'

I for one, have gotten far more comments on my subs than I did previously, but of course that's because folks jumped at the chance to tear my stuff apart after my being so critical. Not that I mind!!

I think the new system will help folks get MORE comments, at least perhaps more folks who don't normally GET comments. People who are afraid that no one will appreciate their 'fluffs' can go comment on songs who only want fluffs and vice versa.

Not trying to attack your ideas or anything, New Day I'm just not completely sure what you were trying to say with your image... were you upset that there were fewer 10s? (that doesn't seem like you) or that there were fewer songs being ranked at all?

Anyway, things will probably iron themselves out.

Never mind, too late, people have been totally ignoring what I wrote in the song title bit (ie just for FUN) and going ahead with ranking anyways.

Is it really rocket science to READ what's written and respect what's asked?????

Hey Phill -- does it have to be "critiqued" maybe a "comments only" option instead of "Critique only" ...

I actually think CRITIQUE is better...if it were just Comments - that would still leave it open for Fluff and what not.....Critique is very specific about what people want....jmo

Currently, it is set up so that if you request to be ranked you will receive comments/critiques.

If you wish to be ranked you should allow for the person ranking to provide reasons for the rank that they provided. Of course, if they wish to only provide a comment, there is nothing that I can do about that.

However, I am considering removing the "prefer not to rank option" This way if someone listens to your submission that you have requested a rank, you will receive one. I am not certain of the outcome of this. This will not take effect until after I have installed the new rank system (1-5 stars.)

Also, it has been requested that a submitter should be able to elect whether they want to be critiqued but not ranked. I am working on this option.

If anyone has additional suggestions for improvement - I am always open to suggestions. (This doesn't mean they will be implemented)

That sucks... I hope I wasn't one of the offenders, although I do try to read the descriptions.

Phill said he was going to make the default setting 'Just for Fun' so mistakes could be avoided, but it sounds like there are still some bugs in the system. I think I'll refrain from ANY critiques (unless specifically asked) until things are fixed.

The default is now "NO or Just for Fun" if you wish to be ranked you will have to select YES.

Also, I corrected the "Theme of Week" to default to 'No.' If your submission is part of the weeks theme you will need to select YES.

Anything else???

Good idea Phill. For example, some of my subs have 15 or so comments, but the rank still wont show up, presumably because people have commented without ranking. I honestly appreciate anyone coming by to listen (and especially when they comment after doing so), but it's a little frustrating when you're trying to compare your new subs to your previous ones (sort of a 'personal best' type thing) and you can't because folks have just elected not to give you a rank.
Ah well... whatever. Good job on the new changes Phill.

Please note that if a member has not yet submitted a song they cannot rank. You must first submit at least one song prior to being able to rank. I think that is only fair.

It is being discussed in another topic to allow "visitors" to leave comments. If this was to be put into place, these visitors would not be able to rank either.

I am still uncertain about allowing "visitors" to comment.

1) It is a rather simple process to become a member of the site and it is FREE!

2) It would involve a great deal more moderation.

3) It would entail a lot of script/code modification.
