or maybe two icons...
a purple star or something would mean "Critique Sub" and a Yellow star would mean "For Fun Only"...
just a thought

Hmmm ...
I'll see what I can do?
Knightshow - Why Purple & Yellow? And why Purple for Critique?
Why not Red & Green with Red for Critique or visa versa
or Blue & Orange
or Pink and Turquoise ... etc ...
Just messing with you...

okay, now "I'm" confused!
I thought we were going to have the critique part of the song be separate from the ranking? Eh??
Course I could be in the wrong here!

Really brief here... (gotta get back to the family!)
Anyway, Knightshow, I was thinking about that also. You should be able to be critiqued without a rank.
However, you must be open to critiques & comments if you wish to be ranked...
I'll work on that in a few days.
Happy Holidays!

Hi Phill
How about a simple radio button group:
[]Rank/Critique
[]Comment Only/Just for Fun
[]No Rank/No Comment
Doesn't that simplify it?
We can figure that if someone wants 'comments only', they're just doing it for fun. If they want ranked, they are also open for critiques. The default (of course) would be 'comment only/just for fun'.
And I definitely second the motion of somehow showing which subs are 'critique friendly' in the latest submission list.
Hope you're having a wonderful warm and plentiful christmas!!

actually I like Phill's idea of critiqueing with ranking. They should go hand in hand.
I was looking for a critique option without ranks... that's all. Sort of the way we had it, with a critique option. I could choose if it's for fun or ranking.
Thanks guys! you're making this a truly wonderful site!

Not sure if you saw my post (just above), but yeah... that's what I was going for also. One of the options could be []Rank/Critique, so the ranking and critiquing go together.
Here's to hoping Phill gets it all ironed out

Thanks Phill for all your work to satisfy a bunch of finicky singers! I appreciate the new "Blues" category. If you can stand one more suggestion for a category here's one: There are a lot of members singing songs they wrote. How about an "Original" category?
Thanks again!

I'll add the "Original" genre category.
I have added one other feature. Simple really.
When you submit (or edit) you can select whether it is part of the "theme of week" submission.
Check it out.
I am working on the other items...
Give me some time for those.

Neat idea Phill, thanks! I for one am more likely to give a listen to the 'theme' subbed songs, although I'm not sure why!! 'Just for fun' I guess!

Shotgun CC wrote: WHY is it SO important that something appear on the SUB page regarding the "critque/no critque" status of a song???? Will some only listen to those songs that are up for "critque" .... or vice versa? If so .... Geeeeesh is the only word that comes to mind !
Well, in a word Shotgun, Yes!! Some of us ARE more interested in hearing songs when the submitter wants feedback. Listening to subs can be very time consuming, so we have to be choosy about which ones we want to hear. Of course, (and I'm speaking only for myself here) I'm not saying that I would never listen to subs NOT asking for a critique, but I am more likely to listen to those that do.

Shotgun CC wrote: To be honest...I find it more interesting that some on here only "reply" to those that have critiqued. How hard is it to say ... thanks for listening, etc, etc? I guess I feel if someone has taken the time to say ... NICE JOB.. or whatever.... at least let them know you appreciate it. I find it is those that have said thanks.....that I have made a point of listening to again and those that haven't probably won't get a lot of visits.
Just for the record... I agree!!
And I ALWAYS try to leave some kind of reply to anyone who comments on my subs, even if it's just a quick 'thanks for the listen' or whatever.
I've noticed quite a few who don't bother to reply at all... kind of annoying.
Ah well
