Did you get my message? About what the heck to do with my Macintosh?
I figured sending a PM was the best way to contact you. I am prolly just asking a all around easy question.. I just want to know what wires I need to hook up from my Craig Karoake Machine Output to my tiny lil line in input on my Mac. Powerbook so I can record. I heard you were the Mac person I needed to talk to. I am about to go out shopping and I was going to pick up what I needed while I was out. I wish somebody would tell me so I can go buy what I need!

So, for sure, do you HAVE a mic jack on your computer? because, if you do NOT, then, there is no point. (for example, i don't have one on my ibook)...
That is simply a standard audio jack. What do the connectors LOOK like, on the back of your karaoke machine. Are there two, one red and one white, side my side, (i believe, rca connectors?)? Are they the tabs, taht you stick wires in to pinch them? Are they little clips, to stick bare wire in?
Describe, in more detail.

Okay.. ignore my PM.. lets just do this here.
I have on the back of the Karoake machine three outputs
a red marked with a "V" a white marked with an "R" and another red with a "L" prolly RCA... but the wires that come with the machine do not fit in the Input of the computer, it is too big.
I do have mic imput so that is cool.

Again....
Will a standard headphone plug fit into your mic jack??!?!?!?! LIke, the really CHEAPO standard buy anywhere pair of headphones.. a computer set of headphones.
If SOOO , continue reading.. ASSUMING they do, as i have NEVER seen anything else EVER as the audio input on a computer...
By the way, v, is video, L is left speaker, and R is right.......obviously...
If it does, then you simply need a cable with two rca connectors at ONE end (one red, one white), and then a standard audio jack a the other end. Now, match up the plugs. L- is for left, and that is white, and R right, and that is the red one.
Then, plug the other end into your line in on your power book.
You will also need to make sure that the connectors (the red and white ones) and both male. If you can only get the female end, that you will need a male to female adapter as well.

is there an adapter that will make my regular mic fit the audio input holey thingy on the computer??? Does it have a name that I can ask for when I go to the radio shack & reveal my blonde tendencies to the pimple faced 18 year old sales staff in the store?

A regular mic doesn't work in a mac, unless you buy a usb mic... however, a regular mic WILL work, if you like, SCREAM in, and turn up the volume and gain...but, that won't work to record, eh?
There are SOME regular mics you can use, as long as they are amplified mics....
Are ya following me here?

iMic USB audio interface is what you're looking for. They are typically about $40.
You can check and see if one of the Soundblaster external devices (Extigy, Audigy NX2, MP3) will work as well (check the boxes for the mac to be listed as supported hardware).

I got the wires to hook my Karaoke machine to my mac. , and realize why am I doing this? If I have to add my vocals seperately after the music is recorded what is the point. I can just record the music off the freakin CD+G and then get a mic that will work with my macintosh.
When I started this endeavor I was under the impression that my voice, coming through the speakers in my Karaoke machine was availiable to the output on the Karaoke device and would be transferred to the "line in" audio input on my computer. Unless I am doing something wrong this must not be the case. The mic goes straight to the speakers.. huh?
If that is the situation then I guess I don't need to even bother with the Karaoke machine at all. Just pop the CD+G in a import the track into Audacity.
Then I guess you just blend two tracks right?
Let me know if I am missing something. I have read quite a few threads that talk about connecting to the Karaoke player for recording, so their must be a reason. Maybe I just don't have the array of components most of you are working with.
Man.. this stuff is totally fun.. I can waste a whole century just trying to figure silly crap like this out.

I don't know why I don't pick up the mic through the line in. I would love to get to the mixing part. I will keep searching.

Hmm, do you have a place on your Imac where it shows you to turn up the volume for your Imac? On mine, i have to go thru the windows volume control. I open it up...and it shows the different things.....like mic, wave, line in.....etc...i would pic MIC if i am using my pc mic....or line in if i am recording straight from the karaoke Machine. Also, what software do you have to record? You can do it thru there....if you have CEP or Adobe......go up to OPTIONS in the MUlit-Track.....and look for MIXER....click on that......and check LINE IN, or MIC.....i wish i could help more.

I did it... I pulled out my daughters lil old cheepo Karaoke machine. It's an all in one kinda deal. and BAM! it worked.. perfectly... I get the mic and full control over the microphones' volume and reverb.. I am going to post a song or two in just a few.. unless I run into more probs in uploading the file.. but Spankie is a happy camper ... laa llaaa
