Does anyone currently run there shows off of a pc to a projector? Im very interested in getting a projector for ease of mobility and Im wondering exactly how that would play out of the pc. I know how to use an extra monitor and I have a dual video card but it seems to me that the projector would be a lil different set up. Just curious any help would be great. Also how expensive of a projector would someone need for this operation as far as resolution or whatever a projector is rated by. Thanks for any info

I use pc projectors all the time at work, and they have the same resolution as the pc which is better than the tv type monitor. you plug it in to the other video port on the video card. no difference. I plan on doing the same to play concert DVD's at DJ shows (big screen). Look round, and you can find a mitisibushi for about 600.00

For bars you'll find that nearly any projector will work.

If you'll ever do an outdoor show or a brightly lit room you might be in for a problem though since many of the inexpensive projectors won't be bright enough for these situations. You might have a problem finding a light colored wall without anything mounted on it to project the image onto in many bars as well. For these situations you'll either want a portable projection screen or bring a sheet w/ thumbtacks to put on the wall for the images.

Be SURE to follow the cool down procedures because it affects bulb life GREATLY. With bulbs costing from a 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of the projector ($300-$400 EACH) it's a good idea to follow the procedure closely.

And Dr. D is right. You'll just be replacing the second monitor with the projector. REAL easy transfer to using it over the second monitor.

For the projector you use a cable the connects from the computer to the projector. i've been able to go about 60' before there is any noticable degradation of the signal. (Actually, I've never had signal problems, but I've always used a signal amplifier after 60'. You can also connect the projector to a CDG or DVD player.. and switch between sources. The preferred output sources are
in order of resolution-
RGB (Component)
S-Video
Composite (yellow RCA).
The RGB and S-Video picture quality vs RCA yellow is quite dramatic.
