I get a nice case of stage fright & have to have those words in front of me no matter how well I know the song.

The other night I finally sang karaoke stone cold sober the entire night (usually have to at least have a couple of liquid courages).

Heh, I used to be the exact same way... in fact, check out some of these past threads. I talked about this same thing:

(Gilly's post) Bad singers---> Come here... http://www.karaoke-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=3479&highlight=
and
(KantStopKaraoke's post) Things I wonder about http://www.karaoke-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=3340&highlight=

(at least I think those are the ones, I've slept since then  )

When I record, I don't look at the lyrics. I sing it from memory because I record with Adobe Audition, and it isn't integrated with my karaoke player. But when on stage, I ABSOLUTELY have to have the lyrics. Even if I know it very well. Comfort thing, I think (like Linus and his blanket?) Just knowing the words are scrolling along on the screen with me helps me to keep my composure.

I used to close my eyes, but then people started saying I do the Stevie Wonder thing!

Sooooo funny!!! LOL

I do that too .... once was told I looked like one of those "headbobby thingies" ya might see in a car!! Hoooooooooting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for shut or open eyes.... If I am pretty comfy with a tune... I can shut my eyes and get into for a min. or so.... but when I open them... I better be able to see the words, or I panic a bit.

If its a song Im doing for the first time in public... eyes tend to "glue" to the words... which I also hate!!

I agree with the "security" thing. Used to know so many songs by heart before doing Karaoke .... now.... sorta need the words to stay on track. What's that all about????? ~~heavy sigh~~

But that Stevie Wonder comment..... set me off.... still laughing!!

Hugs All, CC

Hmmmmm.... never considered it a process of aging.... You may be on to something there !! LOL

Perhaps it goes along with the need for glasses MUCH more frequently than before and the more frequent need to color my hair!! LOL

Not only do I sing with my eyes closed....but I love love love to dress up as my character as well....erm...not the ladies, of course. But I have sung songs as a pirate (Into the Fire), as a Phantom, as a junkie (just ripped jeans and flannel shirt)...once, I sange Anthem from "Chess" wearing only USA boxers....thats as naked as i ever got....perhaps, as naked as I'll ever be. :P

Sorry, it's late, and I'm a but drunk....hehe...have a merry xmas everyone!

Jason

I had my eyes closed one time, and some really sticky lip gloss on... stuck the damn mic right to my bottom lip, which totally changed the note I was going for. That's always big fun.

For a Dolly song, the wig wouldn't be the funny part!! ;) lolol

Crystal - too funny about hitting your teeth!!
Our mics aren't grounded well, so we have to be REAL careful not to get any mouthy parts on 'em!! (otherwise - SURprise!!) lol
