I was wandering through the older threads & found a discussion started by Menephes1 about vocal projection .. what part of your body do you sing from. What a cool question. Do you sing from your diaphram or does your voice project higher and come through the nasel passages? Man... what a thought. & do you sing like you talk?.
People even friends who know my speaking voice have came up and put their face up to mine while I am singing to make sure it is me and I'm not lip sync'in. That is why I love singing so much. I have this really high pitched annoying squeaky speaking voice, When phone solicitors call on the phone they ask to speak to my "mommy" but when I sing.. it is deep.. not really low but thick and hardy like chuncky soup. I push it out from my belly. It's loud & strong. I have to always pull the mike away cuz it's to much. I have a lil hand recorder I use for practice cuz I don't have any recording equipment yet. I let me mom hear a song one day from it.. and she said... "thats not YOU!?
that doesn't sound like you...
man.. I love it.

Every time I push something out, they all scream and I put it back in...

Since we started out on the stage (and without mikes), we learned to sing from the diaphragm. Makes a big difference in performance. It's very hard to teach someone to do though.

Indeed, you can tell those who have had experience singing in the theatre. You can't get around singing from your bowels..or not a soul will here you.

A good Example of what you described is Jim Neighbor's AKA Gomer Pyle....That dude can sing deep .. (just ask Rock) and talk squeaky. I too have a totaly different voice when singing....
