Anyone know of such software for m4a files? mp3gain supposedly has something for m4a but I could not get it to work. Anything else out there?

Looking for something to change the gain of m4a tracks much like mp3gain software does for mp3's. I prefer not to use something like Breakaway. I want to be able to 'gain' the tracks after I rip them from cd to m4a.

http://aacgain.altosdesign.com/aacgain is a modification to Glen Sawyer's excellent mp3gain program. It supports AAC (mp4/m4a/QuickTime) audio files in addtion to mp3 files.

I have mp3gain and it works beautifully. I tried using the aacgain exe file but it would not recognize the m4a files. I even tried changing the extension from m4a to aac. What am I doing wrong?

I use KJAMS. It allows you to set the quality you like and also rips karaoke cdg disks, auto finds the track names, mp3 tags, normalizing, all in one software, give it a try. Even lets you output the format and converts to your choice of many formats.
The demo is free and let's you rip a couple tracks and try all features.

Does it rip to Apple Lossless? I'm already too far in to m4a to start ripping to anything else.

OK that's fine, but I still need to normalize the files after they're ripped. I use iTunes to rip. It's free and works very well. Also populates the ID3 tag info.

keep in mind that itunes does not rip CDG. I'm pretty sure the kjams uses the normalizing featre during the encoding part but they do have their own forum to ask.
