i feel like having a waffle...sooo here goes
this site is begining to make me feel like i am at some sort of competition, just different things happening over the last few weeks...it's losing its appeal and very quickly.
I've always been a person to be quite a big listener, but even that is losing its appeal...i havent really wanted to record, because i dunno if i really want to sub...why? ain't got a clue myself.
It's christmas time and the whole place feels flat to me, no atmosphere...no joyous feelings...flat.
all i see around me are people yes with the want to improve...but its all becoming far too serious, no longer somewhere to hang, have fun, be silly whatever takes ya fancy...all i see is people competing, and yes i do believe its a way of life competition .. sooo its my problem.
I do feel in the minority. i am 34 i have no disillusions i am gonna be a great singer, i have no ambition to be famous or the need to earn a living from singing as i did a couple of years ago, to me its about karaoke as the name suggests and having fun, goof around... i dont expect everyone to be the same but its just all got so very serious, that we allllllll have to give our best recordings, we are all getting paranoid about friggin pitch, timing and breathing...and i said that all in one breath shame i cant do that on ma subs ol
some of the people who at one time were happy just to have fun and sing for the love of it no matter how good or bad are getting obsessed with their vocals and improving them, people it won't happen overnight changes to your vocals it takes a lot of time dedication and training to improve just little tiny things, so people say try this or that, they then sub a song ..critique me give me your honest opinion...honest opinion you don't sound any different your not going to 5 mins after, written word is not vocal training even i know that even the xmas songs have become like a competition, its just madness...or am i the loopy one...welllll whatever but all i know is ...well i don;t know nothing hehehe i just like to let off steam now and again
Don't get me wrong people there is always a need for improvement in everything, and nothing wrong with asking for help when you need it with your singing, the same as mixing and recording techniques, i have always asked for help if i am unsure of something or want to improve on something...but i just feel at the present time so many here are becoming overly obsessed and forgetting about enjoyment, and will in due course begin to feel very disheartened and thats sad...they will lose their spring in their SS step..its already happened with some and will with others.
i am gonna take a nice long rest, i have completely lost my spring in my SS step and was hoping i was gonna get it back but sadly it just ain't there anymore.
will see you all in the new year, people have a wonderful xmas...all the very very best to you all for the new year, may it be a happy one

since the site itself is designed for interaction, all we're doing lately is using the site as it was initially designed for.
There should be room for both, though. No offense intended, but I suspect the problem is more you, and less everyone else. The site has gotten extremely busy, but I still see people having fun together, the "fluffiness" is still at a all-time high amongst friends...
WHY would it bother you if people are trying to improve in our singing, if we're trying to become better at our craft? Yes, some of us take it very seriously... but that's what people do. You either take something seriously, or you don't.
So if that bothers you that a few of us are being that way...

I hope that I can get the modifications in place soon, because I've noticed that more and more people are seriously interested in them.
I further hope that the new changes will help increase the popularity of the site because of the diverse options that will be available.
Let's see if I can remember them all:
1) Checkbox: Critique. This is a box that the submitter would check to request valuable suggestions for improvement. Default: Just for Fun!
2) Checkbox: NO RANKS (already exists, and allows comments) -
Change to Radio Button Select either NO RANKS & NO COMMENTS, NO RANKS with Comments or RANKS & COMMENTS. (not going to add - RANKS & NO COMMENTS seems useless!)
3) Radio Button: Select either Private or Public Comments. Private only submittor can read. Public is as it is currently.
Wasn't there something else??? < scratching head > I thought there was?? Or am I just confused?

time will tell phil when they are in place, it will of course give members more options, but change the flow of the site and the atmosphere ..who knows, its just as ive said over time watched it get more and more serious.
my intentions are not to whinge, as ive said i am going to take a breather away, xmas and the new year is the perfect time, and maybe in the new year i will perhaps feel a little better about things have them more in prospective and once again begin to enjoy being part of the scene

Wasn't there going to be a []fluff []no fluff radio??
I'm JUST KIDDING!!
Looks like the new changes will be good additions to the site. I ESPECIALLY like the 'default' settings, so folks won't 'accidentally' get critiqued if they don't want it.
Thanks Phill..we all appreciate you.
Now, if we can figure out how long we have to wait to delete a song after uploading....

From the SS FAQ:
Can I delete a song?
Yes, however, all submissions are required to be posted at least 5 days prior to them being deleted by the member. After 5 days a delete button will appear, not until then. However, Paid members may delete any song at anytime!
If you need to have a song deleted prior to the five days, please contact the moderators and explain why your song needs to be deleted. Remember we need to know your username, song title and the reason.

Well Missy, if yer gonna have a waffle you should at least have some syrup with it!!
I think people are stressed out from the holidays... I know I have been. Money has been extremely tight this year and with a 6yr old in the house, that makes for a stressful christmas. We made a rule to limit present costs to $10 or less... I only went a little over on one of mine (found a really good price on a little kid sized 'real' guitar). I've also had a lot of other stress going on the past few months. Things I can't really go into detail about on here.
Despite those of us who have gotten more 'serious', I've actually seen a very warm camaraderie on SS and in the forums. Folks are being supportive and giving honest critiques when called upon to do so (most of the time). I think the feel of SS HAS changed somewhat since I arrived (not that I'm causing it mind you), but not necessarily in a bad way... it's simply evolved somewhat into a more 'well rounded' site.
Most everyone here is still nice and friendly (of course some enemies have been made, but they are basically keeping away from each other so far). Any time you have a 'social' situation like this, with lots of different personalities together, you will have some people who rub each other the wrong way and sometimes they will feel the need to express it. Then, things will get heated.
What separates the 'men from the boys' (so to speak - or more appropriately the 'girls from the women' ) is the ability of people to rationally work out their differences and move on instead of getting trying to rip throats out and getting into mud-slinging contests. Not all of us have the capacity (or inclination) to 'turn the other cheek'... and even those of us who do, won't do it forever.
I think things have been smoothed out for the most part. I mean look, here we are.... you and I... conversing as adults and learning from each other. That's a good thing! Sure some egos have been tarnished, but it's up to each of us to deal with the fact that there are always going to be folks in the world who disagree with us and just move on with our lives.
So, in the interest of christmas spirit...
Enjoy your waffles WITH syrup (and other delicacies)
And know that whenever you feel like hanging out and singing, SS will still be here (unless Phill gets crazy on us or something) And the rest of us SS addicts will be here waiting.
ENJOY YOUR CHRISTMAS!![/img]

Oh, and not trying to pick on you here, but sure... true vocal training takes years and years, BUT!! sometimes there really is one or two little things you can learn to dramatically improve your performance (sometimes in a matter of minutes). I should know, I've done it. Now, to make those things become 'natural'.. sure, that takes years.
But, that's just my say.

I have to agree with Missy. I don't feel like I can sing anything right, I'm afraid to submit, I'm already painfully critical of myself and I guess the added stress of the holiday as well as the fear of a bad sub has kept me away. But that's just me!!

Hope I'm not the cause of that Ronda!! I think you have an awesome voice. I just tend to be critical when people want to get ranked, because I've been raked over the coals for ranking *without* commenting, and I usually take the time to rank if I listen to a song and the person allows it.
Phill is going to be fixing all that soon anyway with a 'critique' or 'just for fun' selection. I hope you didn't think I was mean to you on any of your subs!! You're quite a nice addition to this group.

Im not afriad to sub...or of lower scores..i would WELCOME some critiquing..no one hardly ever critiques me ...even though I know I have really improved in the last couple years..surely there is more I can do...even if its mainly mixin suggestions..I welcome them...t hats why I leave my subs to be rated...
if you think of a critique as a way to learn..then its cool...and if it hurts u..or makes u feel bad simply chose to not be rated..and no one should critique you...dont let fear stop you from doin what you enjoy!

No Syber I think it's an internal dialog I have that keeps me super critical of myself. I'm an open book even when I sing I truly bear all there is no separation between me or my singing. I've mentioned this here before and this is probably why I took a 7 month hiatus from the site, it can be overwhelming! I'm a strange cookie ask my hubby! Beleive it or not I actually listen to anyone with a perfect 10 and popular artists all the time to listen for clues on where I miss it when I sing. Just call me Spacie Gracie!
