Due to heavy rain, the stage display kinda' got fried the other day and couldn't believe the prices when I went shopping for one. So I put together a do-it-yourself project using an old speaker cabinet along with a 24" led tv and duck tape. Wah Lah! Attachment:

Ideally you have a large monitor facing the singer above the heads of the audience but in most outdoor venues you don't have that option. I'd rather have them looking down then have a stand mounted monitor blocking the singer from the audience.

They also have 14 tv displays hanging at each of the poles surrounding the patio for those who prefer looking up or forward or wireless mic travel. it's good to have one for the stage.
I did notice many Empty speaker cabinets are available to purchase around $20 along with led TV's can be found for around $40. most wedge monitors have approx. 45 Degree angle friendly for the singers convenience.

Since you've gone this far why not just seal the front with a piece of plexiglass and a good bead of silicone to keep it dry?

I did have plexiglass but removed it because of the power button is on the front bottom area. I did however use bathtub silicone all along the inner rim of the display that really makes the difference in waterproofing it.

A friend of mine did something similar. I have been thinking about it, myself.

I had a friend build two enclosures for me out of 1/2 inch plywood and matte black paint for a large out-door stage show we did last summer. Biggest problem was both ambient and direct sunlight on the screens rendering them nearly impossible to read. (Topic for another thread.)
We ripped up cardboard boxes and duct-taped "wings" to the boxes that first day, and bought black poster-board for the second. Even then it wasn't great.
I've since retired both enclosures, mainly because they took up too much room in my already-packed Grand Caravan.
