OK I will investigate and see what I can dig up as far as books etc..

The voice teachign thing would be fun, but I think too much effort right now. After the new year I plan to post around for musicians so I can start a rock band (just for fun). I started one last year but it didn't get very far...then I got busy so I couldn't pursue it further.

Even if they don't have a great music program, they may have something :) Yes I am being a pushy (@$%&#!), LOL! Just ignore me...

I have a Casio that I hardly ever use so that's what I checked on. It comes in handy sometimes. I believe you are right about the relaxed chords, that sounds familiar.

speaking of comedians who imitate...... anyone hear of Andre Phillipe Ganon?

I think so... or maybe it's someone else who does a show in Vegas. Supposed to sound like all kinds of different people.

Well, maybe someday they'll put out a show in dvd and I can see em :p

You may be thinking of Danny Gans... he is AMAZING!!!! He does all the voices dead on and manerisms... and he is funny!!! He used to be at the Rio and now the Mirage has him... I highly recommend his show!!!

I agree that basically.... we all start out by imitating. Then we find our "voice" or style.... like I've said before... with karaoke backings we are limited to the background singers etc... but I enjoy a song well done... whether its an imitation or a person trying to make it their own. It's funny... but I can sing a song I haven't heard in YEARS... and sing it very close to the original style. My memory is like a steal trap when it comes to songs.... too bad I forget everything else! That is why I love doing songs I am not familiar with... or male songs.... it's not so stuck in my mind. BTW.... I can still watch Mary Poppins.... and sing EVERY song in the movie word for word! Drives everybody CRAZY!!! HEY... they just released the Mary Poppins 40th anniversary DVD woohoo! Chim chim charoooooo.....

I have heard of both of those performers in Vegas but haven't seen them....would like to someday. I enjoyed Legends the one time we went.

I think you are definitely right about the karaoke tracks. If there was a live band or piano then I think it would be easier to make it your own style. The karaoke versions force you into certain rhythms, speed, etc.

Well if anybody has heard of our British Comedian Freddie Star
I think hes the only one I have ever heard who can truly step in the shoes of elvis,

Doesn't he sing with the original Elvis backing singers?

I seem to remember watching "An audience with..." and I'm sure they said they usued to actually sing with Elvis... I also seem to remember them saying he was the only guy they ever sang with that was so like the real Elvis, they got the voices confused with the real mccoy.....

Yep, that's the guy I was thinking of! :) I checked out his website and he does seem funny. Maybe he WILL put out a dvd someday...

yeah, same here. It's sort of my 'superpower' as my sister likes to say (her 'superpower' is remembering all the lyrics to songs she has heard). Now, if I could just use that to make it sound like it does in my head when I sing it... :p heheh

Me too!! lol I just LOVE watching musicals... but I get on people's nerves I'm afraid. For some reason, even if you do a GOOD JOB singing along, people get tired of hearing it. :( :( ;) I had a lot of fun watching "Grease" again recently. :D
