Funny? No, it's truly, truly, sad... so very, very, sad...
Maybe I should post a how to 'fake' submit?
Rule 1: Don't sub w/ the original tags intact!
Rule 2: There is no fight club!
Rip original, play through cheap speaker, using Fischer Price mic to record. Use vocal eliminator to seperate music from vocals (doesn't have to work very well), hose the mix by increasing the vocals or music, reencode at low bitrate in mono, misspell a word in the tag occasionally, and submit!
Uh... maybe I should stop... Next thing you know I'll be investigated!

Score one for the crack investigative SS team. You guys are so good. I seem to get sucked in every time. I guess I just don't understand what these people get from subbing someone else's song. It seems so silly. What good is all the praise if I know it wasn't me. Maybe I could fool everybody else but I would still know the praise belongs to someone else. I'd rather get bad comments on all my songs than good comments on something I didn't sing. I just don't get it.
I'm glad you are all out there looking out for us gullible people who take everybody at face value.

Melly, they meant the song, not the singer. Ms. Independent is geniune (and very good!). I see you're up late with me!! Gonna go get some shut-eye now....it's waaaaay past my bedtime.

That is funny. Course the real joke is we have professionals on videos who are not singing their own songs and lip syncing. Several big names even have been caught as the wrong songs cranked up and they had to leave the stage
I have noticed several singers who as they age, began to loose a lot of the timber and quality of their voice due to smoking, drugs, and just the fact the vocal chords start deteriorating with age. I must admit it mystifies me a few immortals in the male country world can still do shows until they
DOA on stage.
A few aging rockers and singers, Suzanne Vega, Stevie Nix, Joni Mitchell (having seen her live some time ago) (so not so much SV) voices have started to go, and of course on stage, as several movie stars who appear to white fluffed around the nose, seem somewhere between earth and the astral plane during their performances.
To me the real talents can sit there, raw voice, no mike, no mixing, a single guitar, no backup, and sound great. So faky Karaoke superstars, well, it's just a reflecton of the music world.

Wow, that is weird that people would do that. But you know, there are a lot of people on the net looking for attention, so I guess this is one way to do it...very sad and pathetic.

I agree that it is sad that so many singers today rarely perform live. It enrages me that with so many incredibly good singers struggling to make it, the industry is flooded with people who are not particularly talented, but whom have either great connections, or a marketable look etc. I understand that there are good reasons for lipsynching SOMETIMES.. illness, or perhaps a number that has extremely difficult and physical dancing. (although I'd almost rather hear the singer huffing and puffing on the mic a little when doing dancing.. it adds to the LIVE energy. It is ridiculous to see someone dancing their butt off doing crazy stuff, and be hearing perfect studio vocals coming out of the speakers.. than at the end when they say "thank you" or whatever, they are huffing and puffing and can barely talk..)
Some publicists say that it is the public's fault that many singers are lipsynching because we are expecting "perfection" when we go to a concert or see them live on TV... that if we didn't get that perfection it would make us not want to buy their albums. (what a copout) I for one don't expect "perfection" from live singing.. in fact, it angers me because than I know that they are most likely not singing live. I expect to hear a crack here or there or a note slightly off. I also love when singers sing live because they can change it up and do some cool new things with the melody etc. The sad thing is, that some of these singers today just CANNOT sing live because they are not very strong singers. That is the truth of the matter and why a LOT of them lipsynch. Not because they would be "imperfect" and human, but because they are not good singers to begin with, and would sound horrible live.. and YEAH, DUH.. if the public hears that, they most likely wouldn't buy the records. So it's not as the plublicists may say, that they may be imperfect (couple cracked notes etc.), but that the public would find out the TRUTH that some of these people just aren't the greatest singers...
That's not to say that there aren't some GREAT singers out there who are doing it right. There are still some, and I love and respect them. I however have very little respect for those who are so admired by the masses for something that they can't do very well.. it's all an illusion. I'll stop being bitter now ..
anyways, there IS a difference though between mere lipsynching and the things we caught people doing here. For the most part, those lipsynchers ARE lipsynching to their own voices (albeit a very processed and helped production of their voices.. it's still them) The people we caught on here were basically stealing someone elses work and claiming it as their own so as to win some false praise and adoration... That's REALLY not cool..
Gosh I hope I'm making sense today.. if not.. i'll blame it on my sickness and say that I was just delirious with fever

Yeah, my first real experience with that was hearing (watching?) Avril Lavinge's video, you know... the one that was in Blockbusters several months back. Anyway, I thought her voice sounded cool when I heard it online, but OMG... she has to be the worst performer I have ever seen, and her live vocals aren't much better. Call me naive, but I was TRULY shocked at the difference!

You know... we do play 'live music' and I'm starting to get irked with the phrase 'just karaoke'. Singing is singing, man. And what, you don't think 'live' musicians use effects on their voices to sound just that much better? Heck, we all do.
This isn't about becoming 'discovered' on Singers Showcase (although a few of us DO come here looking for potential vocalists to work with), it's about practicing our skills... whether that's 'live unretouched' singing, or learning to mix better, or refining our skills processing music for our own cds. It's about getting feedback from others in the field, and of course for quite a few, it's just about enjoying the chance to sing and share with friends.
We've been over this quite a few times now, so rant if you feel you must... but it's unlikely to change anything.

I can't really speak for those "fakers".... but my guess is that the reason they do it... is just simply because.. they can. People "WASTE TIME" doing far less constructive things. And when ya think about it... it only takes a few minutes to upload a song ... so it's really no big deal to them. I doubt that they are doing it to get discovered.... more likely they want to see if they can get away with it... like kids playing ding-dong-ditch-it!!! Perhaps some people see a community of friends and want to be a part of it... I'm sure there are many reasons... none of them make it right... but it happens.
