I have never had a single problem listening to submissions. Mine is a quicktime plugin... I have no idea how pc browsers work.... is it ALL windows media player? or can you get a quicktime plugin? It must be something wrong with your plugin, etc, not the site, or your computer specifically... because, I myself, listen to ALOT of submissions, and have NEVER once heard an error. I have no idea what to say, but, i wanted to say something... , someone else is going to slap me, and call me stupid:) Now.. if you were a mac user.. i could be of some assistance. Oh, I need to upgrade my pc skills......where has time gone...
Hope you get it all sorted out:) I like to think that when you listen to my submissions, they sound the way they should:)

I think it may be connection speed? Cause that happens to me sometimes too. I am on cable but we are in the sticks and if a stiff wind blows our cabel goes all mucky....
Everything seems to load fine etc. but it is like it wobbles all over the place.. just something that might be the reason?

Ahem... first, that's 2 L's
Yeah it may be a connection problem - or a speaker glitch... I usually don't notice any clicks, pops or hisses - unless it is in the recording. I lkistened to several of your submissions and heard nothing (But a lovely voice)

Kathy, you are correct! I just re-install Windows Me on my brothers computer & did all updates & that's what it does! Which Windows are you running?
For the cracking, my guess is that you are using an audio chip not a PCI audio card, those onboard chip are very sensitive to high signal, my new laptop has this problem!
My home computer with XP has no problem with the pitch & no cracking, using a SB Audigy2 ZS.

I had two computers connected on the same line using a router, the one with Me was having this problem but the one with XP! The old version of Windows are not running the Media Player 10, could that be it?

Kass,
Maybe if you changed your blinky to say "I love PHiLL" instead of 'Steve' you'd get better results!
-
Also - I swear, if you're a grandma - then you must have been about 5 when you had your child! Or else your child was 5 when they had theirs! You have aged mighty well - but then again you really aren't old anyway - you're a hip young granny!

Kathy;
Have you done ALL your updates on the Windows Update site? If not, good chance you have an older version of SP, Directx & Media Player?
I would suggest you download them all including SP2, Directx 9.0c, Media Player 10 and DO NOT INSTALL ANY AUDIO OR VIDEO DRIVER FROM THE WINDOWS SITE, you must download from Creative in the case of your SB Live and don't know which video card you have but the same would apply. Almost certain that you'll fix this problem.

I bet it's a connection problem. It cracked the first time and then didn't when it was replayed (per your description of the problem).
The first time you play the song it's pulled from the web site. The second time it will play from the cached version in your temporary Internet Explorer folder.
Given that it's the same file being played each time, it is likely a problem with either the connection speed, the settings for multimedia playback through Internet Exploder, or an issue with the MP3 codec within Windows Media Slayer. Upgrading Internet Explorer and/or Windows Media Player may help to resolve the problem.
I'd start with clearing the temporary internet files (the browser cache) before you visit the Singer's Showcase and defragmenting your hard drive. These are simple things you can do to clean up your pc that take very little time (most of the time) and can really help your pc. The installation of a spyware blocker (like Ad-Aware from Lavasoft) can also help to alleviate potential issues.
I have seen a case or two where a heavily fragmented hard drive coupled with a full temporary internet files caused some stuttering and cracking as parts of the temporary files were erased and new files were being cached. It's because of this that I make some of these recommendations...
