I am in the middle of disc inventory and I need more CD cases.

I am currently using the Odyssey CCD450E. Holds almost 500 discs in paper/vinyl sleeves. It is the largest capacity I have found that meets my requirements.

http://www.odysseygear.com/odyssey-prod ... d450e.html

Does anyone know of a higher capacity case?

Requirements -

Hard sided
Stackable
No Wheels (unless they won't interfere with stacking)

I need to make a decision on this pretty quickly. I have 10 of the above Odyssey cases in an online Cart ready to purchase.

Personally, I prefer to use books.

CaseLogic has some nice ones - here are some that I recently purchased:

They hold 352 discs in protective cloth and plastic. Plus they store nicely

Thanks Phil! I have bought out many KJ's over the years. Many of them used those books to store. If they stored the books flat, particularly for long periods of time without temp/humidity controls, the silk screening on the discs sticks to the pages. Sometime lifting off the top layers when trying to separate.

If they stored them on end (with the CD's standing on edge), MOST of the time, the disc doesn't stick (though I have seen it happen).

If you use the discs on a regular basis, it isn't an issue.

For me, the discs are being inventoried, then going into storage so I am going to stick with a hard case.

Chris -

Damn! I didn't consider that... I have the disc cases stored like books on a shelf in my house. They do take up a lot of room (I do get grief from the GF! LOL)

I didn't consider the possible damage... Yikes! As mine are stored/inventoried also and have been for sometime.

Hmmm... how much are the cases you are considering?

Go to SmartDJ.com

They allow you to make up to 3 offers in a 24 hour period. I have ordered these before and it appears their rockbottom price is $85 a piece even when I ordered 10.

Thanks Karen. I have tried those as well. The black sections of those are a flimsy particle board style material. The cases seem solid when empty but once they have weight in them, they flex and bend and come apart pretty easily.

I ended up ordering 10 of the Odyssey cases I linked.

I'd almost bet a local cabinet maker could make them for less than $85 each. Take one to your local guy and see.

A local cabinet guy would go broke because......

You need to:
Draw and design it
Buy the wood
Buy the carpeting
Buy the hinges, latches and handles
Buy the glue
Cut the wood
Assemble the wood
Cut and glue the carpeting
Assemble the lid and base unit with hinges, latches and handles
Pay an employee or owner
Factor in profit and overhead

I actually made a DVD shelf for my house with a free weekend, it is bigger then anything you could buy on the market (8' high x 4'wide) I spent about $100 on the project, and it's not anywhere near as complex as a traveling CD case. I agree with buying something on the market is the much cheaper option.

A local cabinet maker has all the tools, wood, glue, hinges, etc. cutting the wood gee I guess that would be a little time consuming maybe about 10 minutes per box as from looking at the one Chris is buying all the sides are the same size so is the top and bottom. 1 4'x8' sheet of 1/2" plywood is about $15 or if you want the really good stuff its about $31 with the dimensions shown in the ad (24.5"W x 7"H x 17"D) they could make a few out of one sheet.
