It was discussed not that long ago. If you do a search on this I'm sure it will come up but basically:

1. Rip karaoke disc to computer as WAV+CDG
2. Playback in winamp w/ pacemaker in different key
3. Record the playback in Audigy (or other recording program)
4. Burn new wave file and CDG to recreate custom karaoke disc

You can use a variety of software to achieve this but Cool Edit Pro, MP3+G Tools, Audigy, and a variety of others are in frequent use by the members of the forum.

My favourite subject! :D

I've tested so many of them & honestly, no one comes close to the EAX sound console software that comes with all new Audigy2 sound cards!

MTU has a software which could do exactly what you are looking for, it's call Keyrite, just give it a try, they have a demo version I believe?

I personaly have a problem with Winamp, I found the sound to be sooo bad, they use a bad sound engine and the Pacemark has some glitches like any other key changer, including the ones that comes with any Pro Audio editing tools

MTU has the best tool but it's up to you to determine if you like the quality, very friendly user like all there software btw

Ditto on MTU....... microstudio for ripping, playing, and custom reassembly, and KeyRite for key changes.

I have no idea what glitches you're talking about Mikey, but I'll take your word at it. The pacemaker and the .cdg window... never had a problem. My version of winamp is 2.9, so maybe that's different than you're talking about.

And I've tried other music software... and not found any superiority. Does the EAX have karaoke capabilites? How do you incorporate the .cdg window plugin? Same as the winamp one? Do you just make the EAX the player of preference and the .cdg plugin works? Or do they have their own karaoke software?

IIRC the EAX plugin is a toolbar (It's was on my mom's computer that I was working on last week). It controls the sound even while another program is playing the sound. It allows you to 'tweak' by selecting speaker setups (headphones, 4.1, 5.1, etc) and other functions. It basically intercepts the signal to the sound card and applies additional processing.

EAX is a software from Creative, it has what they call, EAX Console where you have some effects that you can apply on the desire input, Karaoke feature where you can play a song using there Media Source Player and just change a key, (doesn't play the graphic part) vocal remover...

What I do is play a cd on my desire key and record my session using the MediaSource Play center and just record the session in 24 bit, 96k than use Wavelab and normalise the track. This way you get an excellent track ready to use in Audacity for recording! Of course I'm talking more for studio recording than for KJ's. Winamp will give you great results for that especially if you play it on PA's. I'm not a KJ and don't run any shows but I can honestly say that when it comes to sound quality using studio equipment, Winamp is by far the lowest sound quality of all mp3 players I've tested, if only they could change the Audio Engine but I don't think they will ever do that, it appears that the end is coming for this free software, I've been reading some articles where AOL (The Owners) are not spending anything on this software anymore

okay, we obviously agree to disagree...

and the articles... if you go to nullsoft's website, you'll see that was total b.s., and that the creative team behind the product was as surprised as the next.

But I'm not even talking about current winamp releases. I'm talking a much older one, and I have had zero complaints on our computerized system.

so what you do is use EAX for the audio bit, but NOT playing karaoke on...

and I thought that's what the whole discussion was about?

You're correct Brian, I use Karawin for playing Karaoke which has a good keychanger and a great sound. EAX is only for audio bit or change the key on some of my cdg disk and than burn them on my desire key so I can play them on a home cdg player.

I'm glad to hear that those articles were all B.S and hopefully they will work to improve the sound one day. I do understand that you're currently running an older version but the problem again is the sound engine they use since day one. Nullsoft could easely buy the audio engine from Bass Audio and it's not very expensive but they would need to get some pressure from all of us. If they ever do improve one day I'll be the first one to use there software

Have you done the test? Just play the same good recorded track on Karawin and than Winamp, everything at flat and a good set of headphone, I'm sure you'll hear the difference.

Micky, did you just call KnightShow Brian?
If yes then :rotflmao: (inside joke  )
If no then I'm confused with the names in this thread. :(

LOL@Brian. That's TWICE lately I've been confused with him! Ohhh the agony, the humanity! (just kiddin' if you're watchin' BHB!)

No, to be honest, I've never done a side by side comparison with a card inserted, as I don't have one. I didn't see the need as Winamp does fulfill my needs, and many, MANY other people have openly recommended the player before I ever jumped on the bandwagon.

I've only just now heard of EAX... so to me, throwing out a few years of current operating experience with something that hasn't yet stood the test of time wasn't an option.

If I get the opportunity, I'll try it.

Have used the MTU software with no problems .. Can also be used to make your own karaoke versions of original songs.

ps.. Nice to meet you Bart, would suggest that you type in lower case unless you are trying to make a specific point...it is usually considered rude to type in all uppercase..
