Brian I use the feature in Karma called "manually add media file" in the playlist section. Then I trim the ends, and drag to the singer's name in the rotation section. Wow, that was easy. Tried that with my own thumb drive & worked like a charm. It was there in the program interface all along – learned something every day. But as noted, I think I’ll take Alan & Robin’s advice into consideration – “too risky & not worth it”. Thanks.

I will not play thumb drives of any sort for the reason some have mentioned. I will also not play customer burned discs either. Only manu cd's. Had a guy bring in what he thought was a Chartbuster purchased disc last week and after simple observation I could tell it was fake. The label was on crooked and even the Chartbuster logo was smudged and almost unreadable.
This guy is not only a regular but a friend and he even had a receipt from the company he bought it from based out of Texas. He called them the next day and said he wanted his money back and that he would not be sending the discs back. (he destroyed them with my assistance). Within 24 hours he had his money back and they said it was ok to not send the discs back.
Another pirate supplier selling counterfeit discs to the public. Imagine that!

I just went back to offering a cdg player.
The newer cdg players also offer a port for a thumb drive so I can accommodate people with discs and play thumb drives without jeopardizing my show computer.

I like that model, Brian. I bought my wife one for Christmas for use at home.
For the shows I bought a clearance unit from Blinq that is very similar to the Acesonic.

Good question Audioprola.
I honestly don't know, but how does a mechanic know the customer who drove a car onto his lot for repairs didn't steal it?
Do they commonly insult their customers by assuming their cars are stolen merchandise till proven otherwise?
Or how about the lady who takes her kid to see a doctor. Does the doc make her prove it's her kid before he provides his services?
I wish there was a more friendly relationship between KJs and mfgrs, but it just seems to keep getting more adversarial all the time.
I have only had a thumb drive show up one time so far and I already had the track the guy wanted, but with technological change being what it is, it's a matter of time till it happens again.
The guy who shows up at a karaoke show with a thumb drive isn't what's driving American karaoke manufacturers out of business.
From my personal viewpoint, I like to do my best to legally acquire whatever track my singers bring in so they don't have to bother to bring anything in.
It's just unfortunate, that it's getting harder and harder to buy legit Sound Choice discs.

i play discs (though it has been almost 2 years or so since one was brought it) and play flash drives (auto play turned off, and i don't see a singer going out of their way to pass me a virus for no reason) without any issues. Who am i to accuse them of stealing the song? i have 0 evidence to even assume they stole it, so i see no reason not to play their own media. it helps when it is a song that i don't have and is not available on download.

In the mechanic scenario most reputable garages will ask for your registration (the first time you have come in) so they can input the information in their computers (ie make, model, serial number), so when they call for parts, they get the proper ones. They can also use the information for vehicle manuals, estimated time of repairs, recalls, etc.

I honestly have never had a mechanic ask for my registration, but then again nobody would ever want to steal what I drive. I won't play an obvious burnt disc, but what do you do when it's a thumb drive file?

Sure, and one more step further and how do you know the disc was legally made by the manufacturer? Try this with a beer: Was the beer stolen? was the water stolen used to make it? were the hops and malt stolen? How far back do you want to go?

I know many people that burn their own custom discs from their originals so they can carry justthe songs/versions/key and tempo change already done many times all on one disc instead of carrying 10 or more individual discs. Thumb drives no issues for me. If someone is going to virus me, then it's onto a different policy where I do not take them. However it hasn't happened in 8 years and it isn't going to!

No, so I can sue them and force them to stop. Unlike many places, we have attorneys in Texas who can go after this kind of pirate.

All they need is the VIN Number. That tells them EVERYTHING they need to know about the car. As for the Make and model, well, why does a mechanic need the registration to tell him that?????????????????

Guess Texans would never get their car worked on as we are not required to carry our registration in the car. Even when we drive in Canada
