I understand the no download, but can't it be made available as custom disc only?

KarenB wrote: I understand the no download, but can't it be made available as custom disc only? You are confusing the rules that UK producers are told to follow for "No Fly" songs.. In this country if a song is "No Fly" - it is forbidden....period. The song in question is not on that list. Even though we have blanket licenses with publishers, we still have to get a "all clear to use" for every song they have rights over. The process can be maddeningly slow especially when we have a clearance for another song that has all the same writers etc on the same album! In light of that, we have no doubt that we will get the go ahead on that particular song soon but in the meantime we release songs as soon as they are produced to any of our services possible which is UK at the moment....

Just a question from a position of logic, not of knowledge of your industry:
Based on your statement, if a "blanket license" is what is sounds like it is, wouldn't it make sense to just ask for those rights as soon as, if not before in some cases, an album comes out? If the permission was achieved before a song even becomes a hit, then the permissions would be in place. It seems that the hangup might be that they might want to hold up on doing that, if for no other reason, to see if a song becomes a hit, and perhaps try to negotiate a separate price, which wouldn't seem to be the case for a "blanket" license...

We have over 10,000 songs spread between the major publishers that are all on a list to be cleared. There is no additional fees to be gained from one song or another. The exception would be an artist who refuses to grant rights in principle, but responds to a cash advance and grants rights. The process is tedious and expensive and we are working hard to further things along....

It seems like a telling story about the publishers' view of the significance or importance of your industry that they drag out the procedure for procuring the proper permissions--at least here in the US...
Also, does it seem fair that a process that has this much complication to it would have the term "blanket license" even remotely attached to it?

Well the publishers don't seem to realize they are shooting themselves in the foot, but unfortunately the people who can change the rules don't care, so we are stuck with it.
I've been saying that the rules are stupid and need to be changed, LONG before it became this difficult to get legal new music.. *sigh*
Looks like i will be renewing my TOR service for another year after all *grumble*

How far away are we from no one bothering to produce new karaoke music? The big publishers, it seems, could care less if ANY karaoke music is produced. How much longer will the folks who are now trying to produce it just throw up their hands and walk away? Is the streaming component eroding the profits so much that the publishers aren't making the profits? I have many more questions but pretty much no answers, just thinking out loud.

Hey Michael! Do you think you can get the web developer to do some kind of 'list all' songs, then be able to sort by artist, title or newly added, instead of having to search by genre blocks or individual letters. And maybe a downloadable csv or pdf sheet of all songs currently offered that is updated when new songs get added as well.

A NEW RELEASE PAGE WOULD BE REAL NICE. Mayba even a page where the release dates are a part of the search feature?

Given that mr latshaw is a big of an egomaniac and a butthole tho, I guess we will just have to wait and see. He gets a cut for every track you buy through iCroons links. If Karaoke.Net does an affiliate program, I am sure you will see their tracks on iCroons. Would be the best money they every spent, certainly as a startup (it's where I send all my singers) Looks like they're now on iCroons (perfect timing)

@ KSFGROUP.... In the other topic thread where you are now listing new releases, could you possibly differentiate between it being a re-issue (from your brand name and the brands you have acquired) or a new release (never released before)?
