It takes me about 8 minutes to update because I have 3 folders of nearly the same music but in different formats. I haven't eliminated any of the old folders because of the new way Karma handles the history files, so I just add another category. So far I have "old karaoke", "new karaoke" and "brand new karaoke". Each new category gets a little closer to having corrected all the spelling errors and includes new music too.

I will soon eliminate the 1st two categories and will be left with only "brand new karaoke". That folder has no sub folders and it updates in about 1 minute. I have been selecting songs for all all my singers for the last 2 years from the "brand new karaoke" category so my history will be pretty good without the other 2 categories included. It has been a slow transition, but my history was too important to me to lose.

I use the File Scan method.

For a system with 63,892 tracks it takes 55 Secs for the first pass (if I am updating the very first time after adding the folders). It takes 30 secs for subsequent passes.

I have a very similar number of files and it takes about the same amount of time if I only scan my newest folder. My big difference is that I am still using a very old version of Karma.

Current version as well. All songs in one folder (5 sub-folders). 38k tracks. Length of time varies:

40 seconds, 20 seconds if pc system is freshly cleaned by http://www.glarysoft.com/

Pc: HP envy i7, 16 rams, win10. Not win7 or 8.1 upgraded to - but factory built win10.

Side note: Glary utilities, a comprehensive pc maintenance tool is free (buy-optional). Create a restore point prior to installing so you can go back just in case.
