Thankfully, the Sunfly police won't be looking over here to bust KJs.

Or will they?

Jim you are all about intimidating KJs. You make THAT abundantly clear. I know if it were up to YOU every brand would be policed to death, and there would be about 400 KJs working the whole country, OR make it so KJs would ONLY be able to use SC. You OMIT information, too. I was quite interested to find out that you are also litigating for VocoPro and American Idol Karaoke. Thankfully I don't use that junk. So how about coming clean and letting us in on what OTHER brands you are in control of!!!

Never heard anything about VocoPro, but American Idol karaoke was SC made if I recall - same tracks.

We aren't litigating "for" VocoPro or American Idol. We released some co-branded products with those two companies years ago, and the same rules apply to those products as any other SC products.

Ironic that it is easier to get these songs for free than it is to buy them legally.

We've always been 100% up-front about the brands we own and police. I'm not sure why you would think otherwise.

Should stay away from VocoPro but not because it has anything to do with SC.

You forgot Stingray, which I believe owns Karaoke Channel.

We don't own or police VocoPro or American Idol. The reason we might sue over tracks that carry those marks is because they also carry the Sound Choice marks.

We also don't own the Karaoke Channel, but if we saw those tracks in commercial use, we would take it up with Stingray or sue for trade dress infringement.

Beyond that, that's it for now.

How can you sue for trade dress that you no longer own??

And "FOR NOW"?? What are you looking to acquire now?? Is it your ambition to own all the different Karaoke trademarks??

they only sold the audio to Stingray, not the rest. trade dress is on the graphics which never got sold. That is why they could sue Stingray for trade dress infringement.

Most people use the figure of 90% when it comes to how many KJs are technical infringers, if not outright pirates. The real nuimber is probably even higher than 90% by a lot. If the numbers are that high after 6 years of pirate hunting by Sound Choice, why do people worry about getting caught by PEP or any other entity that claims to be fighting piracy? More likely to be struck by lightning it seems to me. The whole thing looks like smoke and mirrors to me. With the widespread pirate KJs taking over the business; they should be so easy to catch and force into leasing the GEM series; you would think that every karaoke show would be using the GEM series by now. I haven't seen a single show using the Pro Series Blue tracks until they were available on the sharing sites. Multi-riggers are everywhere and it's damn near impossible to find a show being ruin by a 100% legal host around these parts.

According to some, just buying downloads is illegal, and should be stopped, and those who use those services should be run out of the business. I have my few core sets and the rest I buy a song at a time. Oh well. Don't like it, tough!!

I don't buy into that theory!

We own the trade dress, which Stingray uses with our permission.

As for the other part, you never know. What brands do you use?
