I agree with the "fun" part, ritis. I enjoy it as well... but I have been in several karaoke contests just because a crisp $100 bill was involved. I've managed to acquire 3 of those so far. But I don't take lessons, although I have thought about it before. I sing 'cause it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, whether I sound good or not! My shower never complains

Well, you are doing better than I am alredy LOL! I am yet to win anything from any contests I have entered....and there have been quite a few :) I have made it past some semi-finals to get to finals.....but no luck acutally winning :) Always that one person better than me LOL!

But, I just keep trying...and one day...I will prevail LOL!

and, no we have never broken up. We have been together since our prom (which I took him to as a pity date, as friends) I got pregnant.... ages later, and he proposed. i accepted. Then, we changed our minds, and decided that marriage wasn't FOR us. But, to clear up confusion, we have never been seperated, or broken up, actually, we have never been apart for more than a day, in the past.. forever. (so, this summer will be weird, when he is gone for 10 weeks). But, we don't plan to ever marry:)

Still confused? good:) Our families are:) My mom is always like... "woo, you know what you should do, when you come here for xmas?" And I am like, ooh! what?! "get married!!" ... yeah, mom...

Oh, and I call him my husband, because, technically, he is my common law spouse... and, it helps ease some confusion, and... rude unwed young mother remarks in small towns:) (I was pregnant at 18 ) So, Justy, (Justin) is my... boyfriend? see, nah, that sounds silly.

I do it mostly to get over stage fright.

In the last year, it has almost gone away. Now, my problem is that I get too excited being on the stage..and start singing bad LOL!

It just takes time :)

Well, considering I used to NEVER sing in front of anyone, and couldn't even stand to hear my own voice without the original music blasting on the CD player... I guess I have gotten a little brave in my later years. But these contests I've been in go on every week, and I've only had the nerve to be in them 4 times, if that tells you anything. Sometimes I think I'll enter it, and I'll go there with every intention of doing so, and then when I get there I see who the competition is and I chicken out. Hey, anyone got any good chicken clips for ol' Deb? cluck cluck

Gilly - I'm less confused now. I just recall you having called him "hubby" before. But I got it now. I think... I personally think that's a wise decision you've both made. I'm of the opinion that if you don't think you're ready for marriage, you shouldn't do it. But I still have the ring. Just don't wear it. I do have an indention and a slight tan line where it used to be on my finger though....

Don't get me wrong I do sing in public but not in a contest it has to be a prearranged thing where they're expecting performers, I've never done karaoke.

It isn't as though we aren't READY for marriage.I don't believe there is any difference between how we are right now, then if we were married.

I just don't need a legal/religious document to enforce morals and values I already have, or make me respect or treat our relationship any differently.

We simply don't participate in most things like that.... lol, i better shush up now. I think the original iDEA of marriage was being pushed on him by relatives (because I was preggy).. and, i was a little put off by the ring, etc... and after talking about it, we decided it just wasn't for us, esp. at that precarious point in our lives. I never wore the ring. but, it IS beautiful:) he had it specially designed for me, must have spent a fortune:) lol, (it doesn't fit me anymore, and I need to get it resized)

I was 23 when I first sang in public. But like I said in some other thread somewhere on here, I had to be quite lit before I would do it. Liquid courage, I believe is what I called it. Anyway, it took me a long time to get over that fear. I my heart would pound like it was coming out of my chest and my hands would shake after I turned in my song slip... and I would sit there and SWEAT it until the KJ called my name.

I was still very nervous when I got on the stage... but after a few missed notes and a shaky start, I would always calm down and feel comfortable being there. Now I am completely opposite of that. I'm no longer nervous, and I can do it completely sober. It just takes time, Gracie. Some people are born hams and love to be in front of an audience. Others of us might WANT to try it... we just have to work up the nerve. But the first step is doing it! It keeps getting easier after that.

So, now.....i have my own Doggone Critic....

LOL - there's one song that when I sing it my dog comes over to me and puts her paw on my foot and just looks up adoringly

but then there are other songs that the dog will get up and leave the room - guess that's a hint. But I guess maybe those songs my dog just agrees with one of the sites newest members that "I'm beyond hope" - so whatever I guess.

waitaminute... bad singers? this should be the good singer's thread.

Debauch, I'm anxiously awaiting your submissions. Obviously you ahd some online from that other site. Sorry about your ex, but then again, he's now an EX, right?

Now that I'm here, we can officially call it the bad singer's thread!

Matt (pitchy, low volume, and generally... I SUCK!)

Well, Matt... I'll get to subbing again one of these days. Must acquire a good mic. In the meantime, I'll consider one of my older ones. And yep.. he's definitely an ex. Onward and upward.

Not sure if this really is on-topic, but what the hell, half the things posted usually aren't.

When I'm doing karaoke at home my wife will let me know if she thinks a song bombed. Usually I know when I suck, but every now and then I'll think I did one pretty good, and she'll inform me otherwise.

But the more this happened, I eventually noticed that she only seemed to do that on gender-benders. So now I'm wondering if I just sound really dumb singing songs originally sung by women, or if it's some pet peeve of hers, like she doesn't want her husband singing as if he's a woman? I'd really like to know, because I like singing quite a few gender-bender songs. Maybe eventually I'll have to post a few with the comment, "Does this sound bad, or weird, or does my wife just have issues?"
